i do want to note though
my focus is less on the health aspect
and more about the reasoning behind why we still eat these foods
Except for pork because it's disgusting the reasoning is simple. It's good.
kinda rings like those headlines that are like "what X race of people should/shouldn't be doing in 2021"
but i'm a black dude
and i said "are we"
i'm included in this
i want us to grow as a people
and i think now is the time
idek what that is tbh I've heard the term before but yeah
Are you of the Anglo-Saxan descent?
No matter what I will never stop eating catfish, greens with the turkey neck (or hammock) and cornbread. Black eyed peas too.
wait is all this soul food? cuz literally everyone in South Carolina eats this stuff on the regular
glad i moved away. the s*** tastes so good but it is very bad for you. now i just get to have it when I visit for Christmas
the smell when cleaning them though
how on earth do we continue to eat this
Bro it’s our culture it not gonna stop. You gonna tell people in Asia why do they eat live squid and s***? I understand your sentiment about it being rooted back to slavery or whatever but that’s not what it is anymore. Macaroni and cornbread and collard greens and s*** is soul food too

should we let it continue to be our culture is my question
i'm fine if the people say yeah
but i at least think we gotta talk about this

family reunions in mississippi
even the fast food places tasted better in the south
i'm not saying the food isn't good
but man...
i've never felt better than when i stopped eating pork and dairy
Do you need sunscreen when going to the beach?
i am white but I don't really like the beach
should we let it continue to be our culture is my question
i'm fine if the people say yeah
but i at least think we gotta talk about this
Yeah it’s fine I think. Is that your only reason against it? Cause yeah it’s unhealthy kinda but most s*** is lol
but i'm a black dude

i don't really think soul food in on that list of things we need to get rid of. it's more like a remnant of our past that we've turned positive, kinda like the n word.
if you're talking about the unhealthiness of soulfood and people overindulging in it, thats a fat problem not a black problem
in the midst of all of our other problems that we as black people gotta treat, soulfood is a mere trifle
i am white but I don't really like the beach
Same my ivory brother. It's just water, and sand. Like who the f*** wants to sit in sand, and look at water?? I could just stare at my bathtub if that's the case. People really go to the beach to watch water sploosh and get sand in their shoes and all over their car. F*** the beach. And anyone who loves the beach.
Yeah it’s fine I think. Is that your only reason against it? Cause yeah it’s unhealthy kinda but most s*** is lol
i actually care less about the health aspect
and much more about what it means for us to continue to prepare food from that time period
you know?
like, at what point do we move on?
we willingly eat some of the worst parts of the pig
for what?
Soul food is pretty mid, I think I had it so much as a yute and now I want to try to venture out into other culture's cuisines.
plus it's a cultural artifact that black people have jurisdiction over, unlike our other stuff like music etc. in that sense its kinda good that we still do it

are you open to a world where one day we have different food at these gatherings?
i feel you
i'm just curious
family reunions in mississippi
even the fast food places tasted better in the south
i'm not saying the food isn't good
but man...
i've never felt better than when i stopped eating pork and dairy
well pork is better off not eaten and dairy is super dirty in America/only good in small amounts, so yeah it makes sense. honestly i still eat like s*** sometimes, but i try to mostly just eat stuff like fruits, veggies, nuts, grains, etc. these days. it really does make the body feel nice.
also cutting out all that sweet tea from home and soda i’m on water and coffee and that’s it
