happy hour grew on me, i realized it’s one of those songs where rivers makes those sad lyrics but upbeat song out of it which he’s the best at, it’s a nice dancy tune for once it’s welcomed

same with feels like summer which sounds like a radio bop hit but is about someone he lost

but yeah it’s stellar from start to finish, i rank it as high as pinkerton there’s no skips, it speaks to me it’s catchy and rich in its layers and flavors or styles but also super beach boys esque which gives me a real kick

fans just hated it in context bc it came after white and they wanted more of white and throwback weez, they just DECIDED to hate it out of principle and not listen to it

i got some ppl itt go back to it who didn’t like it at first and now like it and said the same they don’t know why they didn’t like it

feel like inconsciously we judged sometimes based on what we read at first on the original reactions you know?

Yeah well said. White album is a bittersweet throwback to the old stuff while Daydream is kinda building its own legacy. Im relistening to White and it's nice so far, still kinda iffy on the blatant copying of riffs from old songs like California Kids, but I cant complain if it sounds good

yeh there’s multiple callbacks like california kids like you said with the attack on the chorus similar to say it aint so or the intro very pink triangle intro, same with king of the world bridge that has like the only in dreams bass or something (they matched them up live too) and way more...

those singles things you pick on at first bc they are aimed for that but over the listens you just pick the songs more and the album overall and forget about those, i believe these sections were all suggested by the young producer jake sinclair

he’s amazing and did the job the fans wanted, he was a fan himself he started in a weezer tribute band and spoke with the fans on a weezer board during that time and gave them hints on the album, very cool guy

but i don’t think rivers was a fan of that and expressed his concerns later or perse confusion as to why he wanted him to do the white album like that as it just felt like redoing the blue album, so perhaps it was a compromise and pacific daydream was rivers having it his way which im more excited for and he’s the best at it

but white still goated tho
