Yeah that plus pink triangle one for sure
Its actually the acoustic version of pink triangle that highlighted for me how great that part is
The thing is the two guitars are not intertwined, but they overlap in a way that creates an effect more than just hearing two guitars echo each other. If u listen to the guitar parts separately, they dont really make such strong impressions as they do when played together. The ringing out of the end of the riffs plus the distortion kinda creates... not exactly dissonance, but just this feeling that more is going on than there is. I'm not sure how to explain it but i just love it to death.
I remember a quote from rivers cuomo saying he doesn't care that much about lyrics (not his priority when making music)
When I find it I'll post it itt
Yeh i know what i mean. Its why he can work with just keeping an speadsheet of lines, and pick and choose.
That said though, i dont necessarily see good songwriting as writing lyrics that are ALWAYS poignant, or poetry on their own. There is a lot going on, and the lyrics are just a piece of the full puzzle. But keeping with this a***ogy, bad songwriting is like using puzzle pieces that physically fit in their spaces but the colors of the pieces are completely wrong to the rest of the puzzle. They stand out. You can still get a completed picture but the way those pieces stand out kinda nag at you and fails to provide this feeling of a satisfying, well cohesive work.

I love that part about the solo, it's just like the Do You Wanna Get High one. I think that is one of the reasons why Pinkerton was so good. Those distorted and clashing simple but emotional solos really hit HARD. Tragic Girl is another one that reminds me of it a little bit.
