I will check it out bro, I’ve always been a fan of what I’ve heard, not sure why I never went beyond those albums though lol. I did listen to that album of covers they did, it was Teal Album maybe? Anyways, I really liked that, but I’m a big fan of covers anyways lol.
did you try maladroit? feel like that would likely be more your alley
it was done in reaction of green being too “poppy” and gimmicky, and in the era of numetal, so you blend those two factors and you get what is definitely the most rocking weezer album i think? that is maybe until van weezer but, still no update on that.. weezer is REALLY not making my thread updating easy
haha yes teal! that’s funny that’s the same @Tha7osavage got into just recently and really vibed!
weezer has a long history of covers, even before doing the blue album, when they were doing clubs, in fact one of the ones i wish to hear the most that is still unreleased to this day is a 1993 cover of the beatles baby im a rich man, what a cool standout pick! (that’s why you gotta love the alt scene of the 90s, always digging something than the obvious hit)
elton john praises the teal album, the album sounds like it does bc rivers was reading this wiki page:
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/You_Can%27t_Hurry_Love
(go to phil collins cover of the song)
he connected with the following quote
The idea of doing 'Can't Hurry Love' was to see if Hugh Padgham and I could duplicate that Sixties sound. It's very difficult today because most recording facilities are so much more sophisticated than they were back then. It's therefore hard to make the drums sound as rough as they did on the original. That's what we were going after, a remake, not an interpretation, but a remake.
and picked that on to make the concept of teal, for example when they did billie jean he recorded as much as vocal adlibs that mj originally did
also second thing to keep in mind is that rivers decided to only put covers of songs that are before weezers time, altho the amazing and stand out “no scrubs” breaks the rule (he said he one time read a tweet that said “if you gonna cover a dong that has a different gender then keep it as it is and own it” which is why he didn’t switch the gender roles in the cover)
but my fav weezer cover, maybe, is this green day one, idk if you’re into them much (weezer x gd have a long history) but the original song is pretty cool, actually one of my fav but it’s a straight forward rocked out typical gd song

but rivers switched it up this time around and made it all acoustic piano strings and it compliments the song even more imo

word, it’s a modern classic that reaches the levels of any previous peak wether it be blue or pink
everything about it is takes me away, the lyrics, the bass, the bridge, a very red album song structure id say
the outro was perfect
yessss
that BRIDGE tho
Ready to love you
Ready to give my heart
Ready to trust you
Cause I ain't afraid of the dark
I'm ready to love you
I'm ready to give my heart
I'm ready to trust you
Cause I ain't afraid, I ain't afraid of the dark
all in magnificent falsetto

a coworker brought it up one time and he thot it was scary how much of a good ozzy impression brian pulls off (brian does the lead vocals on this one) and i gotta agree this cover was made for him, impressive
Y’all should check these out.

Tracks like 1955 and Ludo & Hoggle sound so close to classic Weezer it’s incredible.

💬 QUOTE OF THE DAY 💬
Nate Ruess from the band fun. about El Scorcho as he picks it as one of his favorite song oat:
When Weezer first came out, they were playing a small show in Phoenix, and I remember begging my dad to take me. This song has always been so relatable to me. It does such a good job of saying “Hey – I’m over here!” It’s a love song – Rivers is waving his arms out to someone. That’s been my whole existence, basically.
I remember the radio station in Phoenix had played it on the radio and I was able to get my cassette player out quick enough to record it off of the radio. I spent the whole weekend having to mow the lawn and do chores, listening to “El Scorcho” on repeat. When Pinkerton came out, that changed everything for me. It made me want to be in a band. It finally felt like I was starting to belong to something. I know Rolling Stone trashed Pinkerton at first when it came out, but now it’s a five-star classic.
Pinkerton is the reason I’m doing this.
swipe right for snippet of the song “one more hit” from van weezer 🤔🤔 this the ig of the girl producing the album

How are they covers if Rivers wrote the songs?
Lol but that’s cool and yes, just whenever I’d be interested to read about that!
