a big part is honestly rivers voice. like i remember when his God Only Knows cover went on youtube, i would replay that s*** to infinity. its always been that i was happy to hear Rivers sing a song i hadn't heard him sing before. just that is enough to make it worth it tbh
thanks man
overall it's pretty overwhelming tbh. and that kinda makes coming back hard.
like one thing about it is that it's similar to meeting up with a friend after years of not seeing them. you are so happy to be back w them, but as you talk, u realize that the person has continued on in the time u have been away. there are jokes, stories, and experiences that you just werent there to be a part of. u just missed out. it makes u wonder if perhaps it was better not knowing all that u have missed.
but then again, in this case it's mostly music so really all that matters if that if you experience it or not. kinda like friend of a friend- it kills me that ive lived 4 years without knowing its existence but in the end i love that i have it in my life now.
another thing that is crazy is that ...its like ive had these old ass puzzle pieces. and back then, we would dream and imagine the picture these piecse were a part of. back we thought his blogs on myspace were a godsend because that was as close as u could get straight from him. and with whatever he said, we would extrapolate and make theories with songs. ''he feels this way about this, so this song is about this, and he probably wanted to
do songs about this, etc etc''
and now, i return and see those old ass pieces have been re-made, with crisper edges, and they often come along with other pieces that fit together and give a clearer picture what they were a part of, or meant to be. and often all from the man himself.
s*** is honestly brazy for me.
i think i might just buy all the songs straight up tbh
oh it’s overwhelming for anyone who else sells that much demos? but just take it easy and especially take time to let it sink dont burnout and kill the fun over it, just go with all the albums first one by one!
i feel you on friend of a friend, i recommend the deluxe just for that song alone to anyone who brings up white album and is missing out on
those myspace posts is totally something id done has a teen and is mostly likely accurate, rivers is an open book
but yeah if you have the money that sounds great, you can skip the 80s pack maybe bc it’s mostly just kids recording like child jokes and talks, but yeah he deserves that bag he’s very generous for doing this tbh and the price for the mount of s*** you get like some packs has like 60 songs, it’s really amazing
cant wait to get your feedbacks!
here’s a sneak peak for you, his home demo recording of haunt you everyday since you left around that era - has guitar instead of the piano:
love you brother

this is sorta a random ass trivia challenge: when i was reading this thread a few days ago, i came across this post on instagram, and i almost bought this album because i mistakenly thought it was associated with rivers
the album above ended up being the wrong album i was thinking of. what was the correct album i thought it really was??

this still gets radio plays man haha
Frontman Scooter Ward began working on the song in 2002 and, although he liked the guitar riff, considered it too reminiscent of Weezer, whom Cold had toured with earlier and befriended. Ward subsequently asked Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo to lend a hand in the song's development for their first and only collaboration. The verse lyrics and opening/chorus guitar riff were then written by Cuomo. Originally the two singers planned to trade off vocals, but after Cuomo heard Ward's tracks, he decided to limit his own vocal contribution to the pre-chorus. The song blatantly revolves around relationship troubles with bits of tongue-in-cheek phrasing commonly found in Cuomo's writing style.
did you know he wrote a song for charli xcx too since then? ☺️

Funny when Billy Cobb used the melody for that on the last track of Zerwee. Lol. Smart to kind of listen to their influences for inspiration.
