That’s interesting as hell i don’t even see a pixies influence on them but then when i think about their early more grungy songs it makes sense

oh man weezer? what made blue is def 50% beach boys and pixies

listen to the sweater song for example you hear that bassline it just plays the root note of the chord (kinda hard to go into it without getting technical lol) just the tone of it and just goes with that tontontontontonton pace constantly?

then listen to the bass for example on here:

see how the attack is the same? today that style of bass is a given but back then it’s what made pixies distinguish and stand out this very simple game

but man even like, well and especially pre blue, listen to these and don’t think of weezer original songs think of pixies or as they’re pixies covers, it starts to make more sense to see how it’s inspired

but ultimately it does become more “subtle” on the blue album overall, rivers found his style and how to make it weezer so it’s not too on the nose, not as much as the beach boys sections (obviously the whole harmonies over it but even more so the acapella breakdowns of surf wax and holiday)

but yeah they toured a few times together since 🤗 and frank said weezer is the only band that never fails to make him tap his toe along to it which sounds like a small compliment but to me it’s the greatest compliment bc it’s all you want to achieve at the end of the day no matter how ur style is

I guess I see how I missed since the vocals are inspired by beach boys, and its more of the baseline instrumental stuff from pixies, while pixies are amazing in that department as well I focus more on Franks vocals
