even had bands covering green album b side to push for their big time single, who else had that pull in the game man?

honestly CRAZY how blatant Rivers worship was back then and somehow not really brought up when talking about that era. Basically every pop rock group from then that had one hit was trying to make blue album.
OK Go went onto establish themselves in their own right but this is basically their only real hit outside of their viral videos and weezer worship is so huge lol

dude even has other bands touring playing their albums in full wtf can you imagine that? you’re going to see saves the day or good charlotte play a full weezer album in full like what timeline is this

dude its CRAAAAAAAAAAAAAZY how far their influence reached. Basically every pop rock/power pop/pop punk post-blue and pinkerton didn't feel the need to put up some mainstream image/front and really just be themselves all because Weezer really proved how being uncool could be the coolest thing you could do, which seems like a kinda corny/overdone sentiment today but coming right off of grunge where everybody wanted to be Kurt so bad - aka the man who was basically renowned for just being him in the face of corporate gloss, now spiraling off millions of clones - somehow maybe the artist who took the biggest influence from him, Rivers, basically went off into the opposite direction of the wave he started in the mainstream and then prove you didn't really need a "wave" or a "movement" to be apart of just good songs and vision. And then of course everyone bit off of their blue album stuff but could you blame them? It was really rare something of that level of radical self honesty was made cool.

This was a mess but hopefully u get what i mean lmaoooo.

i think it’s why despite this influence it’s still an underdog scene and that will always remains as such, the rockstar the tragedy the cool factor of nirvana and all the other acts of that era will always outshine, but weezer remains altho they get so much s*** sometimes for ridiculous stuff

yah exactly, there was a lot of sincerity to everything Kurt did but still in the end he succumbed to the rockstar tragedy he himself ultimately predicted he would. Weezer seemingly stripped back all of that rockstar mythos Kurt kept with him but keeping the sincerity to everything they did. Like you said that's basically why they remain underdogs still, seen as lame by a whole new sector of a generation while another sector of the gen rediscovers their music with Rivers staying consistent in his passion for music and challenging himself creatively and that sector relating to and respecting that. There's a reason Weezer is basically the only 90s act people are still checking for, because they never succumbed to nostalgia-baiting no matter how much people would love it, who's checking for the new Foo Fighter, Pixies, Green Day or Smashing Pumpkins? I love a lot of all four groups work but i am NOT checking for their new s***, while Weezer are basically one of the few relevant rock groups remaining cause they reject staying stagnant & giving into rockstar myth, instead chasing a new vision every time.

pixies really f***ed up their comeback they got one or two great songs in there but it’s so boring

it’s just tht weezer has such s*** community like even on reddit jerking off ewbaite over white album like what?

again it’s just bc theres guitars man f***ing nerds

@Ithaka i mean look where green day is at now, with their last record they tried to do the whole "we're bringing back REAL rock, REAL punk none of that mumble (c)rap" promo for it but it turned out to be their most synthetic and lamest record yet (which is impressive cause if you were paying attention to those 2010s releases... oof)

they basically pulled a Summer in Paradise

bro this is so true haha

they lost my respect with that s*** they’re washed idk how they’re gonna come back from that

it’s nice to hear billie finally talk greatly about rivers, seem convenient bc of their planned tour but for him to say he’s the brian wilson of today publicly is important, and more so flattering for rivers himself who always shown love to gd, rivers is all love anyway and i can only aspire to this he’s never egocentric or jealous or mad or sassy, he always stays a student admiring and learning and taking it in, he just stated he really wants to work with miley cyrus

yah smashing is definitely doing the best out of all the groups i mentioned but still..... i ain't checking for that s***

bro I'll NEVER understand EWBAITE stans, like it has great songs on it but it felt like a compromise record honestly. White Album was a return to form while still having Rivers current personality and obsessions put into it, it was blue album for the now. EWBAITE is cool...... but like nothing exciting, just kinda a record threw out there to prove to haters "yah we can still make exactly what you want if we want to" and its like, bro thats cool and its a fun record but you really don't find ANYTHING else more interesting in what they've done post-EWBAITE?

used to hate back to the shack but i like it it grooves it’s a cool album but it’s cool in a way to feel reassured and get recent weezer traditional songs.. not bc the album is something fun... i was so pissed at the hey hey hey on anonymous thankfully it’s over

these fans are just nerds man like greedy nerds they don’t love weezer they just love a concept of it they can’t let go

yah to see Billie talk so highly of Rivers publicly was really beautiful to see and I wish more people would do it. As someone who would genuinely put Rivers up with Brian (in the way that I go back to compositions by both Rivers and Brian equally as much and almost always find something new each listen) it was really cool to see that type of recognition.

But yah that whole album/promo was the GOOFIEST s*** I've ever seen
