Definitely. Which album do you think has the best b-sides/outtakes? I still need to listen to all of the Maladroit/Green ones I never heard. That’s a cool about them; if you only like a particular period, there are probably a ton of songs from it that you haven’t even heard yet.

i don’t think ppl realize the run we about to witness bc van weezer is stacking up with some real high standard rivers songs if you put together half the singles and the album cuts we know that’s gonna be there (this ive thrown it al away song and sheila can do it both confirmed by rivers himself) and then we re getting ok human which is guaranteed masterpiece ... and then after that an acoustic album is in the work which sounds solid as they never fail that ground

that’s a 3 winning strike, add that to the blue, pinkerton, ewbaite, white all classics, with vw, okh and acoustic album.. that’s a lot of classics for a band ppl still refuse to give their fair share and due credit (and that is if you don’t put in beloved albums by diverse stans, some would pick green, some maladroit or others like myself pacific daydream)

but ppl stay elitist and meme raditude even tho they got more good albums than bad by now smh

Yeah, people give Weezer too much s***. Their disco is far from perfect obviously but like you said, the good outweighs the bad and they've showed many times that they still got it in them to deliver a great record. I guess it's just mostly memes and reputation that haunts them at this point lol

Even Black (which i consider to be one of their most underwhelming projects) had High as a Kite which is top tier Weezer imo

you’re right, i started to take it from granted but we are so blessed - the mala days were insane with rivers sharing the songs with fans on the message board lol and all the official b sides or other sessions songs

now we just got a patch of like over 2,500 songs? of solo demo by rivers himself, and even that is a limited patch: he is only including the songs he is abandoning from mining (meaning all the songs dropped there, excluding the ones already reworked for van weezer or ok human, he won’t be revisiting to make new songs out of) which implies there’s a bunch of material he may still keep! but also he is only putting out recordings with him alone so no collaborations (STILL WAITING ON THAT JULIAN CASABLANCAS COLLAB TEASED GODDAM) or material with other band members

and we still got like 2,500 songs from that limited selection to play with for each eras!!! add that the band demos we already knew, my god...

    that’s a good question

i think of all ive visited to answer your question, pinkerton obviously holds the best contender - if from the get go you stack the b sides together there’s actually enough to make a second ce to the album of original songs that are as good if not better than the album? similar to radiohead with in rainbows and it’s bonus cd

id say make believe has lot of left out songs that if you play around you get a more solid and creative album than what make believe ended up being

    and you???

black is a mixed bag because of how it ended up being compromised, they cut half way the original intended vision for it: the opposite of white, more pop and urban influenced

    i love that original take
it started this way and some of these songs made it there like zombie or california snow, but then other stuff came in and watered it down i feel

i switch up the tracklist a bit with some of the features released at that time such as gucci rock’n’rolla, still wanna know, pacific coast highways in the movies or the collab with pusha t and it makes the album so much more fun and coherent but ig that vibe is not for everyone

i do like the black as it is now tho it grew on me

but yeh weezer is forever cursed by elitists, by far the most underrated and slept on band

y’all goats ain’t making a symphonic orchestra album that is composed and arranged by its singer songwriter thats for sure, but that still ain’t enough to prove ppl wrong ofc..

I guess it’s a toss-up between Pinkerton, Blue and Maladroit. Pinkerton probably has my favorite b-sides; “I Just Threw Out the Love of My Dreams” and “You Gave Your Love to Me Softly” are two of my favorite Weezer songs period. You could make two or three records out of the Maladroit outtakes, but Blue has all of the good old outtakes, like the ones you just posted and stuff that never made it off the Kitchen Tape like “Paperface” and “Thief, You’ve Taken All that Was Me”. Blue’s also no slouch in the b-side department, with stuff like “Mykel & Carli” and “Suzanne”. B-sides alone I’d go Pinkerton but b-sides and outtakes it might have to be Blue.

(quoted wrong post lol but wtv)

lil treat volume 2 to make up for the extended wait on weezers camp, more alike music, as promised:

this band is very dear to me, there’s two singers songwriters and one of them is known in the weezer timeline for having done the homie album in collaboration with another weezer fan

that homie tribute album consists of them recording some of the demos for the attempted homie album (it was a side project rivers had post pinkerton when he was in boston, more country inspired but never saw the light of the day, all we got from it were live recordings bootlegs of these songs as he premiered them live with his band before canceling it but that’s about it) but also some abandoned songs for weezers third album before it turned into what would become the green album

it all comes super coherent and professional, it’s the closest we will ever get to a full version of it, similar to how that group of fans got together to make, as much as they could, fleshed out finished product of songs from the black hole project

the talent is immense and the performance really gives the songs justice, i consider some of these songs to be one of rivers finest work

however, here’s two for one if you want something not weezer related: as i was saying one of these guys had his own band, they never took off or anything, just local stuff, only did one ep then broke up, but what an amazing of indie piece it is

weezer infused but more so smashing pumpkins and some beach boys, great alternative stuff with hooks for days, stellar performance all around:

if you like what you hear here’s a link to stream the ep in full:
    https://thelunatic.bandcamp.com/album/milk

it’s free to listen but if you fw it feel free to pay for it, they really aren’t a thing (their videos on youtube have like 500 views max and s*** dropped in 2011) so it would be cool

i can guarantee you that no one else other than me will ever bring this band up to y’all lol but it’s a shame, they’re crazy talented and you guys would love it i think

@Teal_ @Goo maybe you guys would like that band? ps i don’t have anything to do with them this is absolutely out of my own will and admiration of their talents and really think they deserve a listen

my fav song is she brings me back, very pixies

yes so the songs rosemary and baby in that post were intended for a side project by rivers titled homie, a band he formed while in boston posted pinkerton when weezer was on hiatus and rivers wasn’t having it, painting his room all black

band included the guitarist of cake and adam orth who later became none other than creative director at microsoft studios lol

the project was gonna be more country ish influenced, he did some demos that has never been released for it and premiered some of the songs for it while doing some lowkey shows in boston which is how we know of them songs, thru bootlegs

which is how this fan made album got made around, including those recordings of baby and rosemary

it’s a crime as they’re some of rivers best written stuff, more mature, he might have considered it for weezer too, who really knows what homie is

they do release one song for a movie which was the last recording with matt sharp

here’s another great song from it, done by the fans who did the tribute album (the acapella intro is an original piece they came up with however, beautiful stuff)

    always adored that song

however there’s good news for this song; rivers resurrected it for the next weezer album!!!! im so excited

so with that info now, looking back, it’s more than likely he tried to work rosemary and baby for weezer too if he did end up doing sheila for weezer

  • Dec 12, 2020

only in weezer you’ll find out about a side project band that never saw the light of the day that had a microsoft creative director in it

ig it’s acceptable as we reaching deep lore abandoned weezer stuff grounds here so there’s a reason it was left out but man, there’s a floating breezy yet mellow mood to this that speaks to me especially tht bluesy solo at the end, very un-weezer

you should try the b sides of the blue album, pinkerton and the white album if you want to expend more of the golden material, here’s one example of each:

FR??? there we go same man just put some falsetto harmonies and im in it

    my brother!

would also like to get your thoughts on this, not sure if you’ll like it as much but it’s one of their most beach boys sounding produced song, the percussions and all the harmonies work, especially on the bridge where it really pushes it
