Perfect Situation and Haunt You Everyday are better than anything on Black imo. High as A Kite and Byzantine are very nice but they don’t hit me the same way. Maybe it’s just cause the MB tracks are older and have sat with me longer but that’s how I feel.

Black album feels like Raditude done right to me. Just like Raditude era Rivers was taking a lot of inspo from hip hop and more bubblegum pop stuff but on Black it felt way more focused and put together to make a really great mixture of bangers and personal tracks.

mb is just too monotone for me i don’t hate there’s songs i like but it’s energy just sounds like bags under eyes im sorry i don’t mean to hate 😭

That’s what I like about it. It’s emotionally and performance wise pretty depressing and mellow but structurally it’s just straight up pop rock. It gives it this strange clash of identity which I think was pretty common for that era, it’s a solid time capsule.

Yeah that’s why it ultimately doesn’t work for me. It’s not bad, I just don’t connect fully.

yah i definitely get that, definitely a weird combination for most listeners but for me it really clicked and made for a super interesting pop record.
