OK hurley was pretty cool, but I can't help but think it could've been better, there's a nice idea with the demo quality of some tracks, and some songs are really good, but at the same time you got some really bland and forgettable songs on here too, it's kind of inconsistent
Better than raditude tho
i get a feeling it was damage control for raditude it came very quick after rad like few months - like mala did to green
the way you described Maladroit earlier made me imagine an album full of Hash Pipe
it goes way heavier than hash pipe lol
Song would actually be respected if Thom was moaning “if I ruuuuullled the world”
So ranking
Blue
Pinkerton / Maladroit
Red
Green
Hurley
Raditude
Make Believe
love the unique takes itt
bro wtf that sounds like some ktt s***
yeah it's like that vid of the manager standing on a counter before Rodeo dropped, but like 5 years earlier haha
Fake smiles and nervous laughter is on, this song should’ve been on the album, and it’s one of my faves
it’s classic weez

I can hear that it's true you get some pop songs and some old school Weezer songs and at the same time new stuff, sounds like a transitional album
one of the best things about the album was the rollout at the time was f***ed, so they were meant to release it for like 1 week exclusively at PacSun stores
anyway a bunch of fans started going to PacSun in the leadup to the release and trying to find out whether stock had arrived early at stores, which led to this iconic moment with a dude filming himself running out of a PacSun in a mall and you can hear this manager behind him with this really thick Southern accent like
"GET OUTTA MY STORE BOY, AND DON'T COME BACK"
been looking for that vid for years, but I can never find it
iconic that was the guy from the lunatic right
also they toured the memories show (playing blue and pink in full for first time) right when the album dropped that was so odd and surely wasn’t selling the album much
Weezer openers ranked
1. American gigolo
2. Memories
3. Tired of s***
4. My name is Jonas
5. California kids
6. If your wondering
7. Don’t let go
8 the end of the game
9. Ain’t got nobody
10. Troublemaker
11. Mexican fender
12. Beverly Hills
13. Cant knock the hustle.

yeah they ran a huge tour at the time just called the Memories Tour, and each show would have two sets, one of them was just playing either Blue or Pinkerton in full, so they were def in damage control/nostalgia act mode after Raditude's reception

i was saying a while back that if it got better promo it would've been universally seen as Weezer's "comeback album" instead of EWBAITE bc it basically had everything people were looking for weezer to do but the promo + cover was just soooo s***ty that no one even knew it happened and by the time they did they just grouped it into the albums they considered bad (obviously i disagree but just saying)

I mean I can see why when listening to CSP

but then ppl hated it so they took some time off to rethink and do ewbaite that was def fan focused
