Didn’t even know they had another album coming out before lol. Would make sense that they shelve Van Weezer until they can go on tour though.

was this your parting gift? black eye and bloody lips..
ten years from now i still remember every words

    this s*** too relatable...

yeah rivers LOVES doing this combination, in fact if you listen back to island in the sun which is always like played in movies or on tv stuff as happy theme and s*** is actually a pretty sad song: he only sings about that ideal paradise island in the sun as hypothetical, only using the verb “we’ll”

“and i wanna feel it too..”

it really shows itself at the very end when he sings as a distant echo fading away: “we’ll never feel bad anymore..” revealing how much he (and the other person involved?) are hurting bad in the current situation, in the present, this whole island is just daydreaming away from the pain

that’s why it’s therefor a very overlooked hit song

    goat video too lol

    @grimes @Womanpuncher69 @RVI

3/3 strike dont worry there’s way more where that came from

Love Island in The Sun for the exact same reasons you posted too, but for some reason the start kinda feels like a three day grace song idk why it reminds me of my elementary school days watching Runescape Music Videos

I loved weezer when I was a kid but kind of (possibly ignorantly) just assumed that they fell off after Make Believe. Are they still good?

    oh man

that’s funny, i myself don’t even like make believe!

i think the red album turned that around and made s*** creative again after that tho there definitely was their worst era from 2009 to like 2010... actually pretty short in hindsight

but after that rivers took a break to refocus and ever since has rarely missed, go listen to the white album right about now, it is on pair with the blue album you have my word for that

gotchu boss white album is pretty cool if you’re ever curious

  • Dec 21, 2020

@spongebob so to get back at you

ive read about rivers for so long, interacted with him too and yet to this day he still makes decisions that i can’t scratch my head around

we found out for example thru him selling all those homemade demos over the decades that the imo horrible song too many thoughts in my head on the black album is a hook that goes way back to 1998 !! which most fans would consider the golden era

yet here he is with that annoying chorus and, of all amazing masterpieces he has left behind and abandoned he went back to this one and thought it could be finished into something good .. i can’t explain that

the thing about weezer first of all tho is that there’s always a big misconception on what they stand for, bc they blew up during the alt rock prime time era scene they are so identified to it and made as they’re owed to stick to that

the reality is that rivers is just a lover of music period, he nerds out on everything, he used to be a metal head as a teenager until he found out it was out of touch and that new grunge scene was cool and liking beach boys was cool so he learned about it and studied it and became a fan

that’s where weezer happened, but it was just because of the time and pop culture relevancy, he wasn’t on a mission to prove something

he did however want to be taken seriously, the next nirvana, and was hurt that a song like undone the sweater song is interpreted funny while it’s a metaphor about depression (the verses are pretty obvious on that)

that’s why pinkerton happened, he wanted to prove critics this time around, and it was still only a tame version of what he originally wanted to do: a space opera rock! imagine how that would’ve been received

that being in a result of backlash he painted his walls black and shut down for years trying to figure out what or where to go to stay relevant

so in part you are right in hindsight because lot of the albums post pinkerton until the 2010s are a reactor factor to the previous: the green is the most accessible without any much personal emotions, rivers taking singing classes, formulated structures, full on power pop

maladroit is the reply to the fans saying they couldn’t rock anymore

etc etc... the red seems to be where he breaks free tho because even tho you can see it as a reply to the fans saying make believe is too tame and boring so he switched it all up, no one wanted weezer songs with no guitar solos, but rivers did it he was tired of the traditional take and had other band members sing or bring their songs, and no songs about girls.. he plays different instruments in it etc

so you can credit it to before 2010, in fact even in the 2010s as much as he been amazing, he wasn’t for example a fan of making the white album saying it felt like just remaking the blue album, and i can seee that it shows and i understand that feeling artistically

so it’s a complex pov, i used to think it was just black and white to it but there’s layers, it’s hard to tell what album is what, but i think if you listen to heart songs it gives you a good idea who rivers is musically:

super genuine stuff, you can’t say he doesn’t wear his heart on his sleeve, he’s not interested in any scenes, dude just loves music period ain’t no poser (he writes new songs everyday too)

and even that song didn’t seem to get much love (as it pains me, it’s amazing amazing song actually) it got rivers to make a post about it asking the fans why they didn’t love it - showing us that he’s very aware of any criticism that comes his way and while he understands some, there’s some that confuses him rightfully so and he likes to understand to learn from it (the dislike for this song is uncalled for, it’s just because it’s soft, it’s musically really well structured)

    Whats up

Crazy they never officially used this song on anything. I love the sad vocals on the Pinkerton deluxe version but I love the clarinet demo version too

man it would fit so much the ok human concept album, imagine this song full on orchestra

idk think rivers tried to work on it but maybe that song was too special for him he couldn’t figure out to make it fit on any albums and i can see that, even on everything will be alright or the white album it would be too different, sad, think he wants to compliment the song the best possible and still make a coherent album and couldn’t work both out, that’s my guess

i used to think it was bc it’s so related to the songs from the black hole theme but the lyrics can work outside of that, unlike blast off for example which is a motherfucking song but the lyrics can only fit within the concept

maybe the rocked out 2011 version was an attempt to change it up to fit on everything will be alright in the end? crazier things has happened, he did try to rework superstar (song from 2000) for the white album, and summer elaine and drunk doris verses melodies comes from a 1999 demo song

used to love the clarinet rivers home demo more too bc more familiar to it and yet it just feels more rich, you don’t often get a clarinet but there’s something about how the guitar acoustic leads on top of the piano on the band version of the deluxe one that just gets me.. feels it echoes back even more the feeling of the song, makes it more intimate and personal, minimal

they played it live acoustic in proshot during the black album tour 🤗think rivers holds special spot for that song
