Still think itβs solid for what it is
and i think that sentiment alone ("for what it is") makes us try to justify it for really being what it is
so when Make Believe came out, i was approaching peak levels of my fandom. i was a regular on albumfive forums, visiting and posting on that s*** from computers at school lmao. I remember i was saving up money, and trying to figure out a way to fly to california so i could be an extra in their video beverly hills as they had put out a wide casting call. Plus, they would filming it on my actual birthday. "The universe is aligning this s***! it must be fate! ", i thought.
i can still look up comments of my initial reaction to beverly hills, and i was praising the hell out of it. i remember they had listening parties for the album before its release and someone on the forum went, recorded the s*** from his pocket, and shared it. i downloaded that s*** and listened to it on repeat. i remember being in the backseat while my parents drove me places, listening to a muffled ass s*** recording thinking it was amazing lmaooooo.
when the album came out, i remember i wrote a review for a then prominent-ish website, and since i was early to do it, it was featured on the main page. i gave it, with full sincerity, a 10 out of 10 LMAOOOO
im sharing this to demonstrate the point that i was f***ing enthralled by this band when make believe came out.
and so today i listened to it and i found i have hardly any connections to any of the songs. how can that be? like i listened to this s*** out of this album, but i honestly couldn't remember what songs would come next when one song would end. but it's more than that- i joked earlier itt about how i loved this gothic girl with big b**** at the same time i was listening to Burndt Jamb heavily- while it's funny for me to remember that, the true connection was that the song crystalized for me the feeling of ungodly infatuation. the main simple catchy ass guitar chords, along with the plain and direct lyrics give a sense a real intimacy to what he/you are feeling, and then paired with the intense riffs during the chorus. that to me is infatuation- it is simple, infectious vulnerable, and intense as s***.
this is what im missing from the songs. the burndt jamb example is probably an ideal that is not always reached, but it doesn't have to get to that level. but i need SOMETHING from these songs. i couldn't really connect to any emotions with any of the songs really. it's not so much that i need to feel or have felt what the song is talking about, but rather understand the feeling regardless. And most of the songs kinda fail with doing that. the songs seem written like they were written to an audience rather than to a listener, if that makes sense.
I've only heard 1 10/10 album
I don't think weezer will have 1
they have like 4 of those
they have like 4 of those
they have like 4 of those
i will give raditude a 10/10 just because of the dog
and i think that sentiment alone ("for what it is") makes us try to justify it for really being what it is
i agree
