the og version of Not What I Needed basically ended with a full on sample of the og track and it the sample cleared before the album was released but by the time vinyl's were being shipped out right before the drop the clearance fell through so they had to alter the track last minute. Was there ever any reasoning behind that or was it label s***?

not sure what you’re talking about - i don’t know of weezer recording just what i needed and trying to put it on a vinyl? never heard of that sample story either

ok that makes more sense now bc i was talking about the csh song that sampled just what i needed and then i thought u said csh performed a cover of just what i needed to Ric which i thought was weird bc Ric made them get rid of the vinyls that included the sample before release so i was like wtf

its kinda a convoluted story but the tl;dr basically is that CSH made their album Teens Of Denial in 2016 that included the track Not What I Needed which HEAVILY interpolated Just What I Needed by The Cars and Will Toledo and their label Matador apparently thought they had the sample cleared to the point where they had already started sending out vinyl's for the upcoming album but then at last minute apparently Ric said the record had never came to him and he never approved it so at last minute they had to recall the vinyl's and basically rework the song (the final version is still very obviously lifted from The Cars but not as blatant)
