don’t we all
Actually I kinda did lmfaoo she was bi tho not lesbian but now she's dating a girl
the roots of power pop is basically taking the hooks and energy of early beatles and turning the volume to 11
see this song for example
!https://youtu.be/7tD40D7jk-Qyou take the whole formula of this and add steroid to it
which started with this
!https://youtu.be/j3t66Nrqteoand to this day to this
!https://youtu.be/yuLjH4ptY2git started in the 70s as in reaction to the prog rock that was blowing up with its influential leaders such as yes and pink floyd- making 10 songs of experimental noise
power pop was the superhero to that villain to bring back a classic formula of innocence songs where we cut down on guitar stuff (a power song is easily identifiable with no guitar solos) and just boosting all over the hooks, it’s pop choruses - all about the melodies but just made rocking sounding really , short songs and all fun never nothing sad or serious, just hang out beach stuff or to ride along
weezer is often catalogue as power pop with the blue album (due to ric ocasek the songwriter singer of the cars producing them) and altho they pick on it obviously it’s more alt rock - green is definitely far more fitting into the power pop genre
the album colors covers are somehow an iconic imagery of power pop scene too altho weezer didn’t intend it but all this for example:

(big power pop album from the scene of the 70s when it started) making photos on one colors is the heart of what defines power pop genre : the opposition to pretentiousness
this carries not just to weezer but also fountains of wayne with their own homage of both weezer and the power pop scene:

their big hit is a power pop anthem:

genres confuse me sometimes
what's the difference between that and like twee pop
never heard of twee pop
looked it up and it’s description is very similar to power pop youre right lol
im assuming from the bands associated to twee pop that it’s more on a low fi type approach sound and less upbeat even if the subject of the songs and feeling is the same, it seems to be bands that are more raw or well, just indie
while power pop its full on big s*** put your sun glasses on get a soda pop and let’s go for a ride in a convertible
also power pop is older than twee pop
i listened to a song you posted I think power pop has more of a rock sound to it if that makes sense

yeah it’s just like i like more steroid to it’s hooks youre just blasting early beatles type choruses loud while twee pop seems more outside of that formula more on the indie and cute but hipster side - power pop is anti hipster

it’s super hooks but more on a vulnerable interpretation
ironically power pop and twee pop are 2 of my top favorite genres lol
also important to point out that, though not a rule, it's more likely that twee pop groups have female vocalists then in power pop

yeah i can’t think of any power pop with females

ironically power pop and twee pop are 2 of my top favorite genres lol
also important to point out that, though not a rule, it's more likely that twee pop groups have female vocalists then in power pop
power pop is my go to genre after rap and soul - these are my trinity of music and playlists material
yeah i can’t think of any power pop with females
The Waitresses maybe? That might be more new wave tho.
The Waitresses maybe? That might be more new wave tho.
mmm altho some would say the cars was new wave too
but they fit the category of power pop, all hooks no solos - they were on a mission to fight boston which was all over the place with their das rocks and melodic solos everywhere, the cars came on the scene to took it back home
find it fascinating
for a more modern example of twee pop:

Need to dig more into The Cars lore, as someone born and raised in New England that's super fascinating
i know ppl love to nerd out more on ewbaite bc it’s really the most guitar weezer album ever but the glitter of modern pop over white with the kick of the blue album is just way undeniable, and i just don’t think any lows or skips while ewbaite on some days ill skip one or two songs
Agreed brother
I think I like twee pop more
some cool albums to check out if u ever have the chance are
Kero Kero Bonito - Time n Place
Beat Happening - Self Titled & Jamboree
The Magnetic Fields - The Wayward Bus
The Vaselines - The Way of The Vaselines: A Complete History (compilation, not a real album per say but the most readily available album by them and pretty comprehensive of their best/most iconic work)
I think I like twee pop more
to put it simple:
power pop is the big bro jumping in his convertible car put sunglasses on and drives wild blasting his music sun poppin
twee pop is the lil bro more insecure staying in his room watching the big bro from his window and trying to play the songs he hears him blast in his car
