I’m here for it mane. Was Hurley reception bad when this came out?

mmm it’s def mixed, ithink it wasn’t as bad as raditude but bc of since where the band went after and really came back strong it’s today even more divisive, see lot of new comers loving it tho

Love the Blue Album but it’s so overplayed for me that it’s kinda boring on some level now compared to even trying to listen to their albums I’m not as high on.

I just think Make Believe hate is sort of played out, it’s almost like a programmed opinion at this point. It’s not that great at all, but it’s songwriting is solid enough that you could draw a great song out of it as the demos show. They just need to be arranged differently. Almost every song is catchy without being insufferable, some of Rivers best melodies. Its biggest problem is it’s generic pop rock with nothing else going on. At least it’s not a mess like Raditude where some of those songs no matter what you do to them they’d still be bad.

raditude can be redeemed a llil with some of the deluxe tracks but i get where you coming from and i totally agree on killing off programmed opinions, if anything it always starts within and we should always revalue albums how they’re perceived or how we perceived according to such povs at some point and time

my take is mb performance just sounds... like i can HEAR the bags under rivers eyes within this album it’s odd to me, no other albums comes off like that in my book

its production doesn’t help, it sounds like if the green album was punished of having fun

but i feel you tho, there’s nice inoffensive songs and i respect you sticking up for it - would never judge you for that or even ones who do for hurley or hell if anyone does it for raditude bc weezer deserves that

it’s hard enough to fight them against ppl so we don’t need more hate within the own community lol, they’ve lived far too long dealing with ridiculous backlash from nerds - even with the white album some were mad about it, i can absolutely understand why rivers at some point called fans little b****es, or at least why he wrote by now quite a number of songs about it in one way or another

Yeah all of these demos and sessions coming out have made me go back and appreciate the album more. I can see what he was trying to with it. Queen of Earth is a highlight that shows what it could have been. A lot of those low energy performances you’re referring to just come off as an attempt at conveying sadness or hopelessness but the pop rock arrangement and overly clean production doesn’t help to make those vocals stand out the way I think they would if the rest of the instrumentation complimented the emotion.

Speaking of OK Human, their Paranoid Android cover is so bad simply for how Rivers says “What’s There”. It’s like he’s having a stroke as he’s saying it.

hahaha idk why sometimes rivers makes those mimicks vocally within weezer then when you hear him casually rehearsing he sounds just like his golden days

i like it alright tho, not sure how to feel about oat being in the guitar and doing the solo, he does his s*** but it’s hard to settle for that when, well you could have rivers shredding that b****

funny thing is both van weezer and ok human were placeholder names for the folders on his pc and he went with it maybe label thought it was buzz worthy

    van weezer is obvious

i think reason he called the symphonic one ok human is obviously ok computer isn’t orchestra but he was aimed at masterpiece and im assumin he sees ok computer as such, nothing short than the best of the best

really? think im biased bc i was following the videos reveal of it little by little and the way it was shaping it up made it look cooler haha, but i like how it looks like story children book

think mala is somehow iconic cover

i see lot of pacific daydream haters praises the artwork but it’s the other way around for me lol prolly my second fav weezer album by now but that cover gives me too much 2011 tumblr collage feels

I was really hoping the black album would have actually been a dark record.
