What is the lore and legacy of weezer? I feel like blink has always been bigger outside of here

blink has way bigger number ones and they have some great albums don’t get me wrong

but weezer has a longer catalogue and its more diverse and rich - blink mostly stayed punk rock, weezer started as nirvana infused with beach boys harmonies (which wasn’t a thing going on then tbh) then made a space rock opera album that they scratched which is the biggest cult album of the 90s by now then an album that birthed the scene of emo (lotta bands are obsessed with them like MCR - hell blink themselves are weezer fans lol)

and went to make the green album which has massive hits it was so big even upcoming punk rock bands were covering b sides of that album to push for their lead break out singles lol then rivers went on to write songs for numetal bands to charli xcx, the monkees, cee lo green, adam lambert, 5 seconds to summer, simple plan and japanese singers - rivers himself did two albums in japanese, did featurings with steve aoki, vic mensa, pusha t, lil wayne, collaborated with from songwriters who wrote for lady gaga and britney spears to ones who wrote with elvis presley

moved on to making instrumental guitar songs onto pop hits used in commercials onto cover album where he sings michael jackson and TLC and now a full orchestra album with no guitars that name drops literature like 1984, moby d*** and grapes of wrath...

and that’s not covering even half of it all, like goddamn even wrote unofficial USA soccer team song and so much more, said he wanted to work with sophie while she was alive, covers whitney houston and says he has a solo album otw inspired by this, and 5 weezer albums by seasons coming in 2022

like blink are great and have cool legacy they worked with robert smith of the cure and travis barker does amazing work outside of them

but no one touches on the level of work ethic of weezer and im only touching the surface here - lot of lost material stuff that’s beloved etc

So as I'm typing I hear harmonies
Laaa lala lala la la laaa
I ca'I tell this song is going to be good , I look to see what the title is and it's "sheila you can do it"

I remember the title from Ithaka saying it's gonna be on" van Weezer"

I hope this doesn't disappoint as I'm only 20 seconds in... But it sounds promising already :excited:

so actually the intro harmonies of that cover is made up by the fans who did the album - they came up with that small section

but yeah it’s a lost song from 97 that is beloved and one of my fav and we only had live bootleg of it then rivers finally dropped its original demo last year and said it’s gonna be on van weezer - dreams do come true
