One of the times I actually agree with you. It’s frustrating that this site is propping up a whole bunch of mediocre albums. This site is pretty much handing out participation prizes merely based on the fact that an artist from the west coast decided to drop an album this year. Even if the west is really beating every other coast they most certainly not on fire the way they want you to believe

bait? all the albums mentioned are great

idk what it is about the west coast now that i think about it, but its kinda like texas music. if you aren't from there you wont have the same feeling about it because its fake it's own country if you think about it. From the bay to long beach is so different in vibes but they all have that underlying california energy

i think its a testement to how southern rap was so applicable to not just america but the entire world, i wonder why that is

is it the drums? Between memphis lousiana and atlanta, the drums may be the reason its so applicable

im ready for the west take over but we aint saying its in full effect until that kendrick album drop, tyler is NOT leading them niggas with hollaback drums on his album

I love West Coast Rap and one of the few people on here that bump the new West Coast rappers but Tyler & Kendrick are the two only west coast artists that are having an impact rn

The rest are under the radar to the general public

I’m not talking about impact. I’m talking about actual quality. West Coast showed tf out this year more than any other region. Let’s stop the numbers talk

I remember tons of Cali posters on here and boxden and rgf, and most of them loved Tyler from the jump. That’s a very faulty premise

    Quality is subjective

If your talking about a TAKEOVER then numbers have to be involved

The South has had trash music come out throughout their reign but everybody (including NY niggas) had to admit they dominated the game based their impact and influence

Yeah it is the drums. Our Long Beach sound is pretty much the same as the LA sound, which is mostly the same as the (B)ompton sound since a big part of the LA sound is the Crip sound. The LA and Long Beach sounds take a lot from the Bay Area party sounds

It’s all unified under 70s and 80s soul and funk, hence why so many acts from different California regions sample those classic eras of music. And we’re all unified under appreciation for the divine sun and good weather, so we always do our best to showcase that in our production and vibes

We’re big on homage and paying respect to predecessors, that’s why Cali sounds remain identifiable through every era. To put it plainly: we always honor the funk - and that happens in the drums cause it makes your neck snap and chest thump
