Man I really think the levy broke and we saw the difference between someone who comes from a place of chaos but has the juice and respect to bring them together versus someone who wants to be that. It’s hard not to see through a lot of what Drake has branded himself as over the last 6 years. I can’t believe how dumb he was to think people would f*** with him over someone that’s actually from where they are and has given back and put the west coast on his back. I think there was a real character assassination that has happened over the last few months that will make anyone just turn the record off if Drake tries to get in that bag again of acting like he’s connected like that

Critiques like yours are disingenuous and never to be taken seriously because it comes from a place of bad faith. Drake has said way worse things on songs on past albums that y'all didn't care this much about or harp on about. He's simply at a point in his career now where y'all over-exaggerate anything he says and does and paint it as more nefarious than it actually is because y'all are sick of seeing him do this s*** at the highest level and want him to get away.

Y'all blew up the Stallion line on Her Loss and made it seem like he told Megan Thee Stallion to go off herself or something. Eminem spits a more direct bar at her and y'all don't bat an eyelash. Other rappers have spat bars about her that were way worse and y'all also didn't give a f***. Even on the song where he sent the shots at Rihanna, he told you why he did that: she'd been talking s*** about him behind the scenes and it got back to him and he told her she needed to stop doing that because he knows a lot of s*** about her he can expose. That's something he also expounded on on Red Button when he mentions her best friend Melissa and says she's the only one that could maybe stop him from doing that. Even when he brought up Serena William's husband, that wasn't for no reason. That guy has been talking s*** about Drake for YEARS on social media and throwing shade at him. Drake finally addresses the f***shit and y'all twist it to mean he's jealous Serena moved on. So, you mean, he magically waited for 5 years after she'd gotten married and had a kid and just woke up one day and decided to talk s*** about her husband for no good reason?

That's another thing y'all do with him. You never even ask: WHY is this guy doing this? Is there any backstory there? Could something have happened to make him do this? Even with the Esperanza Spalding line. He didn't diss that woman. Away from Home is a song that has him rapping from a reflective and introspective perspective. He keeps going back to the refrain of "I remember" because all those lines he's spitting are about how he felt about things that happened in the past. Anyone who isn't being a disingenuous f*** can listen and understand that. Y'all heard him mention her name and immediately jumped to "Drake is a raging misogynist! He hates Esperanza Spalding! He's attacking her on his album!"

The fact is y'all have already made up your minds about Drake. Anything he does or says will be twisted to be made to seem like the most nefarious thing ever while y'all let other rappers get away with saying the worst things. Miss me with that whole bullshit about "we hold Drake to a higher standard than X artist because he aspires to be the GOAT." That's just a cop out because Cole and Kendrick also say crazy s*** on songs that y'all don't give a f*** about.

Drake never stopped rapping/singing about real s*** in his music. Songs like Slime You Out, Bahamas Promises, Tried Our Best, Drew a Picasso, All the Parties, Away from Home, Polar Opposites, Red Button The Shoe Fits, Wick Man and others have him rapping and singing about real s*** but y'all just don't care to listen to it anymore because apparently, him rapping/singing about his actual life and actual things going on in it is now stale and immature. He can't help anyone who feels that way. All he can do is do what he can do.

The criticisms about Drake have never been fair. The same older Drake music you're praising now as being more mature was also harshly criticized for other reasons in the past but now, it's magically the best music in the world because the Drake critiques have to find a way to endure.

The people who can't find any more usefulness in Drake's music can always stick to the older Drake music they feel is so much better or stop listening to him altogether. He'll be just fine. The people who still f*** with his music will support him and that'll have to suffice. All this back and forth about what he isn't doing right is tiring and a complete waste of time for everybody.

If you're not going to critique everybody else for doing something, stop critiquing the top guy for doing it and saying your reason for doing that is because you hold him to a "higher standard." A standard where you never give him credit for anything he's done or is doing and only ever discredit and overly-critique every single thing he says and does.

Social media is not a measuring stick for real life. It never has been and it'll never be.

All of you in here acting like last night signified Drake's career being buried will be the same ones rushing to listen when he drops his next project (along with everybody else who is team Kendrick in this beef).

Making posts talking about how he's really finished and he really needs to rebrand now or he really needs to make something "deep" so the culture falls back in love with him just shows how little y'all understand about where Drake has been since 2016. Outside of retiring, there's absolutely nothing he can do to stop being the guy everyone hates and wants to see be humbled. This has been a thing since 2016. Every year that passes where he remains the top guy is a year people grow increasingly angry that he simply won't go away. That everything he has dropped since 2016 gets hated on upon release just off the fact that it's a new Drake project, regardless of how good it is, tells you how much people are fatigued by his relentless dominance.

Everyone on social media will talk s*** about him because next to listening to his music more than all the rappers they claim to prefer and they claim are better, it's the most fun thing for them to do.

I personally think he should take the rest of the year off but I've been saying that since before this beef ever popped off. Long story short, he'll be fine and it'll remain business as usual till the day he decides to call it quits. Stop using social media as a size sample of how the larger world feels. That'll never be accurate.

Even if he doesn't lose popularity his reputation can still be tarnished ma'am. Just look at Kanye. He's still popular as ever but nobody looks at him the same. Not saying I know the future, just some food for thought.

How can Drake's reputation be tarnished because of this beef? What exactly has Kendrick proven? The nastiest allegations he threw at Drake were not only flat-out denied by Drake but also by every single woman people tried to being up as way to validate those allegations. You're also silly if you think this beef means black people all of a sudden don't f*** with Drake anymore or won't listen to his music or cop tickets for his shows.

The year will end and y'all would have spent yet another year listening to Drake's music more than any other rapper's music. Y'all will end the year having talked about him more than any other rapper. And Drake don't need y'all to take him seriously. His music will keep doing what it does, meanwhile his involvement in other spaces will carry on being unaffected by any of this.

This is spot on. To further add to this, hip hop is rooted and founded on disenfranchised people, specifically black people’s struggle. That’s a big part of why rap/hip hop formed. It was a form of expression by black Americans against the establishment and institutions.

Every rapper considered in the running for the GOAT title speaks on this. Drake is a rap nerd or at least used to be and studied all these lyrical rappers so he probably knows this. He wants to sit at that table. However, he’s probably the only one that never speaks on this topic.

I’m not saying he should speak on it, especially if he has nothing poignant to say. However, he makes it a point not to talk about this stuff and this has always been something people brought up about Drake. That’s why the slaves free bar was so cringeworthy. You’re not the guy who should say something like that.

Those false prophet bars have aged horribly and I’m not even sure why he’d try to take that angle in the first place. Only way I could see that even working is if Drake himself was the one championing that and Kendrick was the pretender in that regard. Just seems not only tone deaf but really not even understanding fundamentally what a lot of people care about when it comes to substance and hip hop. I love Drake but I’m not going to pretend like he doesn’t really have s*** to talk about most of the time that goes beyond the surface so to call out someone who has gone out of their way to go in depth with their music (not even getting into all Kendrick does irl to support his home) just really hits the nail on the head for your last point
