Once again, most reasonable people are not saying his career has ended or that his legacy has been completely destroyed. You just want to see it that way because you don't want to address actual criticisms of him. Instead you just fall back on ridiculous statements and go look these people are being dumb.

This guy has had multiple reference tracks leak yet he was okay and still charted. Of course his career will be okay.

However, all these blemishes such as not writing all his music, or losing two battles, and losing to a contemporary, matter when the convo of being one of the great rappers of all time comes up.

That convo doesn't impact his money or his streams, and it may not matter to a fan such as yourself, but to people who care about rap music, it matters. And Drake for sure (at least at one point in his life) really cared about that conversation. The people he idolized are in that conversation. He studied those guys.

Will this effect his legacy with respect to the gatekeepers of Hip-Hop media and like, the internet? Sure. Agreed. I also agree that Drake did and still does care about this, which is why he did the scary hours FATDs, which is why he even engaged w/Pusha Ton and Kendrick.

It actually impacting his career materially? Obviously not.

If losing rap battles meant your place in rap history was in jeopardy, most people wouldn't regard Jay Z as the GOAT. And his loss to Nas had a lot more impact on his career than this battle will have on Drake.

You seem to be one of the only people who thinks losing a rap battle takes away from everything else Drake has done career-wise, maybe because you secretly hope that really happens so it knocks him down a peg and humbles him so you can get a more acceptable version of him back. A version of him you can like again. Forgive me if I'm not that much of a prisoner of the moment and for having the ability to recognize that y'all are making this a much bigger deal than it is.

Y'all said the same thing after the Pusha battle: "Oh, Drake is done, who cares that he's still putting up numbers. Numbers don't matter anyways. He can't do any braggadocio raps after this because it won't land with people. He can't ever get on songs and talk his s*** after this. His legacy is forever tainted after this. No one will take him seriously as a rapper after this."

What didn't y'all say back then? The only problem is that Drake is irreplaceable figure in the game. Rap needs him too much to ever get rid of him and he's done way too much at this point of his career for his legacy to EVER be damaged in any real way by a f***ing rap battle. That y'all don't see that tells me all I need to know. If that man takes the long break y'all keep insisting he takes, all this s*** falls apart.

You aren't the one who gets to decide Drake's legacy. Bots on social media aren't the ones who get to decide his legacy. People who have always hated Drake aren't the ones who get to decide his legacy. They've been trying to spin narratives to take away from his legacy for years but they never stick because he has simply done too much and continues to do so. If he was so unbothered as you say, he wouldn't keep Pusha's name in his mouth for 6 straight years.

What happened to Drake right now is totally different from Ether.

Pusha made one song that was like 2 minutes long. He literally questioned Drake's character, broke him down, and said look you have a secret child worry about that. You aren't who you portray to be. It was a warning shot that Drake never attempted to go at.

Ultimately, having a secret child by an adult star isn't a huge knock for a rapper. It did mess with Drake's "clean cut" image a bit, but he just doubled down on the mob boss, I'm not this clean cut guy thing and he was fine.

Kendrick made like 5 songs about Drake. A 2-3 minute song from Pusha T vs. 5 songs from Kendrick Lamar where he is 1) breaking down Drake's character 2) calling him a leech to rap culture and black culture 3) calling him a pedophile, and so much more is not comparable to ANYTHING you are trying to bring up. Kendrick is also a much bigger artist than Pusha T.

If you think losing to Kendrick doesn't impact Drake's status as a rapper on top of more reference tracks leaking, we'll just agree to disagree. We have different standards for rap. I just know based on your boy's history, he has the same standards for rap as I do or at least used to. He comes from that school. He has said it multiple times.

Sidenote: Why do you think rap NEEDS Drake. That's a wild statement. Rap would fall apart without Drake? He's a ridiculously important figure in rap, but to think a whole genre needs him, is delusional.

See that's where you are wrong. You take any criticism about him so personally. I personally don't care if his career is impacted or not.

This may be wild to you, but he's my most listened to artist in my lifetime. He's my number 1 artist on my Spotify. Just because I enjoy his music does not mean he is infallible. He's a highly flawed person, which would make for some interesting music, but he doesn't want to go there.

Just because I personally think this Kendrick beef was a big hit to Drake does not mean I want him to fail. You really extrapolate people's posts to things they never said or meant.

Firstly, no one is upset other than you.

Secondly, I am mainly focusing on how he got embarrassed in another rap battle, but this time in my opinion, the repercussions for him will be greater. That was the debate. You and others feel like this will not impact him at all, while myself and others feel like yes it will impact him.

Thirdly, what's wrong with expecting more out of your favorite artist? Constructive criticism is not a bad thing. Why should people just accept mediocre output from a person, corporation, etc that they have been following/purchasing from for years? Literally accepting anything is the epitome of being a sheep.

He literally dropped 6 new songs because he heard the criticism about his last album. Like a month later he drops 6 new songs. To act like he doesn't care is just not true. For example, each time Joe Budden has said something about Drake, Drake ends up dropping great music.

If I cared about what rappers said about women, I wouldn't be such a huge rap fan and I definitely wouldn't start by criticizing Drake because it's a truckload of rappers who have both DONE and SAID way worse things to and about women. But y'all don't give a f*** about them and yet expect me to give a f*** about what Drake does/says.

2. You think it'll affect him, while others don't. That's that. What there to debate?

3. You're not even being critical about the music itself, you're being critical about the things he's making music about which is essentially you being critical about the way he lives his life. I've already told you that won't be changing because he's said many times that he can only make music about the things he's living out. Why are you surprised that a 37 year-old bachelor with more money and women than he knows what to do with isn't rapping about more mature themes? A critique that rings more hollow when you realize that most rappers rap about immature s*** generally.

Somehow, you understand how to respect every other rapper for what they offer but Drake has to be held to a silly standard that you set for him. Lil Wayne is in his 40s still rapping about p**** on every song. No one calls him immature for that because they know that's who he is. Same goes for Future and his content. Drake has also mostly stuck to the same content and yet you insist he can go deeper and he must do so to satisfy you.

You don't get to tell an artist what to make and instead of judging an artist's art for what you feel it should be, you should learn to judge it on its own merit and for what it is, not what you wish it was. Most people had a visceral first reaction to Honestly, Nevermind because no one expected a full dance album from Drake. Many people who talked down on the album initially eventually revisited it with an open mind and with a willingness to accept it for what it was and not what they wanted it to be and that's when they learned to appreciate the music and enjoy the album. The reason why you see so many people since Views hating a Drake album upon release only to grow to love it isn't because anything about the album changed. They just had to change the lens they were viewing the album from and accept the music for what it was. Only after doing that could they appreciate it for what it had to offer.

As long as you keep insisting Drake needs to make more "mature music" and he needs to do so on your own terms, you'll always have complaints and that won't get you anywhere because he won't evolve for your sake. He'll only do that when he's ready to and that's just something you'll eventually have to accept.

At this point in Drake's career, critiquing a song for its quality is more valid than critiquing a song for its content imo. You have a broad idea of what you'll get content-wise from a Drake song. That's why you still listen to him. Dude is closer to the end of his career than the beginning of it. You can either spend the rest of it complaining about why he isn't giving you the kind of content you want or you can appreciate the things he's giving you for what it is. The choice is yours.

4. Scary Hours 3 was always going to happen. He teased it on the Table for One episode for Her Loss. He said he'd make it and drop it some months later but wanted people to sit with Her Loss for a bit first. I guess somewhere along the way, he started working on For All the Dogs and then once his tour kicked off, finishing the album became the priority.

Many people were already predicting he'd drop SH3 during the summer as an appetizer leading up to For All the Dogs the same way he dropped SH2 as an appetizer leading up to CLB. When that didn't happen, we all knew it'd come some time after the album dropped so, no, Joe doesn't get the credit for that project.
