Op why the f*** you don't have friends from childhood and HS to hang out with

The only time I ever went to the same school for more than one year was high school due to moving a lot and I don't live in the state I graduated from now.

WFH is ideal for many people and happy if it works for you

but in the industry I was in, WFH is weird. I’ve done it for many years and now I just can’t stand it, I have no kids or anything and now I have a desire to switch it up and travel and move on from that

    My feelings exactly

Workers who don’t actively use WFH to help their recreational life flourish are the reason why this opportunity is going to s***

If you’re WFH, you should have an actual life or accept that you’ll be a cave dweller

If you go to the office, then at least you’d have a little credence for retiring in your off hours

Go to a dive bar and play pool

this is one of the things I kind of touched on but 100% a great idea

Im wondering if op just has general anxiety and doesnt want to leave the house though, the answer to the thread is just 'go outside and engage in your hobbies or find a new one with meet ups'

  • Dec 5, 2024

Sounds like op is a p**** tho and isn’t gonna take any advice

If you were in the office every day going “oh what’d you have for dinner last night?” To your coworkers you’d still be a loser when you got home

People telling you to go to a cafe to work or go to the gym and you’re saying that doesn’t count? You need to stop being a b**** no one is coming to save you

I work from home too and also feel similarly. What helps is going for walks during the day when it’s daytime, and also ensuring I get out on the weekends. I also try to get out during the week too, but it’s not always possible. But getting out on weekends at least, is crucial

If you're not a parent or taking care of another person there is no reason for people to work from home. It's another thing that will make society as a whole even more depressed.

I’m just tryna get laundry done while working chill bro

This isn't really WFH induced tho...? Why aren't you going out? You do the social stuff after and outside of work, not in the office

Work outings aren't at all always fun nor a way to guide you into socializing. Work is like the bottom tier of socializing unless you genuinely found people you connect with there. Most coworkers are not friends

Work socializing is good for your social skills bc they’re usually people you have nothing in common with

Good for making career, keeps you engaged, socialization.
Unless you have a really s***ty employer, i dont understand why’d you want to spent the majority of the time at home.

the mental health benefits wfh are well worth the social anxiety tbh

    Literally go outside

Lol but i know how you feel. been working remote for 4 years and just started a job that's 3x a week and even going in for a few days has been so nice. but echoing what other people said : make plans w your friends. go out for long solo walks. flirt with a new girl every day. go grab coffee and chat with the barista. incrementally these things really build up over time. i used to be really introverted and inward but things really changed after i stopped taking myself so seriously

I don’t understand why you wanna spend time of your day to:
    -Get ready for the office
    -Drive there
-Sit in a sterile ass office next to a bunch of boomer white dudes who say the same 10 s***ty jokes
    -Drive back
-Change out of your work stuff

You definitely got a point in terms of career advancement but if you’re in the right company you get plenty of “face to face” while WFH and still get a chance to show your skills. I’m in calls usually all day long with coworkers

I’d rather stay home, get chores done while working, and have the rest of my day/weekend to go out and do fun s***
