A return to lyricism being front and center, with a focus on content, rather than “lyrical spiritual miracle” stuff

what's on your list? i feel like every year becomes easier to find good s*** over dec/jan

God damn it I thought this thread was about food I was thinking hard just from the title.

But might be a little niche but I’m craving some pluggnb. Feel like that had a lot of untapped potential and I still think it’s aged great. But Maybe it’s still around heavily and I’m just out of tune.

    Oh, okay.
I don’t know of many named examples, but from my understanding and limited research, much of the “super lyrical” scene is like that. Dudes like Mac Lethal and those kinda guys.
As much as I appreciate playing with words, and just being astounded by what people can put together, I really want something more.
Like, classic Eminem or TPAB era Kendrick. Someone who has lyrics and rhymes out their ass, but is also talking about something

We need a new Kanye West but without being f***ed up mentally, is this possible?

  • More producer led compilations. A la Neptunes Present…Clones. Metro restored the feeling a bit with H&H.

  • For the producers: more effort with sampling. I’m not looking for the next Alchemist but if you’re not making a melody from scratch, at least be imaginative

The first one is alright. I think I like the beat more than the rapping though.
The second one is a lot. Again, I like the beat, but it does feel like they’re just putting words together. That being said, I’ve only heard it this one time, so I might be missing something.

  • Boolymon type beats

Mfs thinks its about using fancy uncommon words

    Exactly.
Like, it’s cool if you can rhyme five syllable words and stuff, and I think there is a place for that too, (I sometimes do just want to be impressed with how far it can be pushed), but for the most part, I feel like being lyrical is about using language and poetry to bring the listener to where the creator is at, or to convey something.
    Idk

Yeah man I want a story and i want to visualize or feel or think about the s*** the artist is saying.
i feel u there is time to enjoy meaningless s*** but its an underapprecation to use music just a tool to move, there is way more than that and its been proven
