Hey I’m easily a bigger Kendrick fan but let’s be honest. No one wants to rap like Kendrick, want Kendrick to be on their song for a hit. Also when it comes to charting I can list a whole bunch of records for Drake. Kendrick and Drake have probably the same amount of classic albums but Kendrick shooting a higher percentage cause of his low release rate

"No one wants to rap like Kendrick"

We both know that's not true

    Black Thought

Extremely solid list, was just listening to Mind Playing Tricks On Me again today and was legit struck by how Scarface fully transports you to his state of mind, the sample hook feels like denial, it sounds like ignoring the fact that you want to kill yourself in day-to-day life, been said a million times but it's a masterpiece and it's all thanks to Scarface tbh

it’s genuinely no wonder why the discourse in this sxn is so awful lol, why would you bottleneck your feelings on music into a completely non-applicable sports metric

drake could have a revolving top 10-20 of different songs depending on the mood

definition of multidimensional there’s no argument unless you literally just don’t like the music and atp there’s no discussion to be had lol

just like nobody is talking about any mr morale songs outside of auntie diaries over any gkmc or tpab song

i would throw that in a top 20 drake list over a 15 year career

Kendrick got the longest charting rap album ever, the most critically acclaimed rap album ever, one of the highest streamed rap albums ever that won a Pulitzer, a soundtrack to one of the biggest Marvel movies ever(Black Panther) and an album that initially sparked the highest grossing rap tour ever.

And he's more skilled as a rapper and has more substance to his music than Drake's.

This "objectivity" you're speaking of is not as set in stone as much as you think it is.

There’s a real argument on who’s more skilled as a rapper, because they both have some skill sets scoring high while totally lacking in others

Kendrick has storytelling and content, but non existent wordplay, bar skill and vocabulary

Drake is the inverse where he has the technical skills but very little to say

Kendrick is tasteful but not entertaining

    Drake is entertaining but tasteless

They’re two halfs of a great rapper, if they did the fusion dance maybe we’d have something

Drake and Kendrick are basically the new age Jay and Nas at this point, this is a debate that will never end TBH

The way I make my all time list is incredibly simple. Whose discography do I value more? And I just ask the question until everyone is ranked appropriately

Drake has built up an incredibly solid catalog of albums, mixtapes, singles, features, hits, etc that spans multiple genres at this point

I’m taking his collective body of work over kendrick every single time. Without question.

That being said, my system also places a guy like Future over Kendrick. I’m taking futures discog over his too.

If kendrick made more music or if ALL the music he made was spectacular then he’d be higher all time.

It’s just the truth. Yes Kendrick is more consistent but man barely outside. It’s like rewarding someone for always hitting a bullseye 🎯 but he takes 3-5 years off everytime . And taking points off the guy who shows up every year

One of my favorite songs ever. If you haven’t yet, I highly recommend doing a deep dive on his discography, both his solo and Geto Boys work. It’s very rewarding and there’s a lot of other moments like that where he really takes you into that mindset. Best catalog in rap imo

These arguments can be silly, but to play devils advocate, is bringing up longevity/consistency really that crazy? People do judge the legends on that, like I put Scarface over Ice Cube because he was able to sustain for longer and has more great albums, even though if I were to put the best 3 albums from both against each other it would be pretty hard

That user isn’t saying it in bad faith I think, it can be a legit point

Eh, you could say that but GKMC is one of my top 5 most played albums of all time across all genres. I can talk s*** here for discussions but Kendrick doesn't need to do what Drake does because only Drake can do it that effortlessly and ditto for Drake trying to do what Kendrick does. Artistically, they couldn't be more different. Anybody not listening to one because of the other is only playing themselves.

Debates like this were interesting 10 years ago but these days, they're boring to me. They're both hall of famers who have done more than enough to prove themselves. Yes, I'd like it if Kendrick dropped more music but he doesn't have to and neither does Drake, which is why it's unfortunate that many people don't appreciate his consistency throughout his career. Maybe when he retires they will.

There are a handful of Drake albums that I would say are pretty good, whereas Kendrick has a handful of the best rap albums of all time and no real misses

Drake values volume too much to create a focused masterpiece album at this point. Comparing their discographies doesn't work for me because Drake is more of a hitmaker where's Kendrick is all about full length statements

Maybe this is how they talked about Queen vs Pink Floyd back in the day lol
