In the streaming-era, it's super difficult to strike the right balance between oversaturation and justified output

Someone like Trippie Red for instance, makes great music, but the length of his discography makes it difficult for me to properly get into him

Not only is he dropping twice-a-year, but his projects can be upwards of 20+ tracks in length

On the contrary, starving fans from music can also work against you. Whole Lotta Red is a straight 10/10 CLASSIC, but I feel like if he had dropped it 6/7 months prior the backlash wouldn't have been as dramatic. Same can be said for Eternal Atake although I thought the wait for that was pretty reasonable, considering he dropped like 4 tracks in between.

Of course this is all also dependent on the popularity of the artist too. Someone like Kendrick, or Drake, or Travis can go 3+ years without dropping a project due to their status. Whereas if a new-school artist waited that long, it'd essentially be career suicide.

An interesting example is Young Thug as well. For me personally, Thug doesn't drop enough SOLO material to warrant his acclaim (although I don't deny his profound impact on the sound of today).

Who do you guys think oversaturates their sound to their detriment, and who do you think doesn't drop enough?

    Yeah facts

I catch a few YoungBoy songs I really like now and then, but the density of his discography deters me a lot

I question the quality control on it all if he's dropping like 3 times a year

Artists need to realize that they should just drop one project a year, with a single here and there.

Stay off social media unless their promoting their s***.

i mean to cater to US people who are passionate about art/music. yeah. but for the majority of people they want s*** immediately and they want engagement

I feel like today yeah this is a valid take

But maybe 5 years ago you wouldn't be saying this

But yeah I understand, I love all of Future's discography but by the time we got to High Off Life it all felt pretty stale and repetitive - wish he'd revisit the sound he was exploring on the SAVE ME ep as that felt fresh

Some artists are good at being consistent tho

Like Currensy who might drop 12 albums in a year

Or my new favorite Rx nephew who drops songs almost every day

With artists like this tho they need a solid fan base

Only a few artists can really pull this off I feel like.

Once you get too many projects and songs there's just too much to consume and it kind of is too much to take in

Interesting. For me it's like I kind of just think that "immediately" is too much to take in if there's too many drops.

I just miss when it would be a project a year.

I'm inclined to agree with you as well

With the exception of artists like Drake, Trav, Kdot, Ye, Weeknd etc BIG DOGS

I feel like a project every year & a half for someone like Uzi or Thug is the right direction

5 years ago future was coming off DS2 and dropped purple reign and evol which are all great. past 2-3 years it’s been high off life, the wizrd, beast mode 2. all far from his best stuff
