    Lmfao are you f***ing dumb

That's simple human psychology, as long as you never stand up for yourself they'll walk all over you that's not to mention letting everyone in pearl harbor die in vain by doing nothing. Show some sympathy for both sides and acknowledge who is at fault, the emperor who was too afraid to surrender.

Context matters, if we surprised attack Japan first it'd be hard to argue against. Japan killed innocent people at pearl harbor so why should the US not return the favor

the socialists in here dont care about innocent americans killed unless it pushes their agenda. japan could've nuked hawaii and they would still condemn the usa.

    As you said, context matters.

Pearl Harbor was a military base. Hiroshima and Nagasaki were two large cities full of civilians.

Yeah idk how it could be argued to be morally ok to surprise bomb a military base of a country you’re not at war with

regarding option C, the soviets couldn't launch a land invasion on japan. they simply didn't have capability for amphibious warfare, at least not to that scale.

their navy was so depleted the US and the UK actually lent about 200 ships to them. the soviets used these ships to invade the kuril islands, in which they lost around 1/3 of their landing ships just at that location.

Nobody is arguing that it was morally okay to bomb pearl harbor.

Nobody is trying to justify Japan's war crimes.

That user is not saying that it was okay for Japan to bomb pearl harbor, simply that there was reasoning behind them doing so. This does not mean that the reasoning was 'correct' or 'just'.

Explaining the causes =/= excusing war crimes

The means some nationalists will go to defend the USA is beyond me. It's okay, this country is f***ed up, but so is everybody else.

The US was a lot closer to a neutral entity than to a major player in any conflict that resulted in fighting breaking out

the part of us putting embargoes on their oil supply is true, but that's only a partial reason as to why japan attacked pearl harbor. they mainly did it to force peace from the US by taking our presence out of the pacific. they didn't need our oil per se because they were getting plenty of it from countries they conquered in SE asia, particularly indonesia.

  • Crazy how people look at stuff in retrospect and not put their mind into what was going on at the time and only talk about the bombs

ITS WAR. Ultimately, civilians die in war. That’s a unfortunate part of it.

Also, those bombs are nothing compared to what the Japanese did to the Chinese, Koreans, Okinawan people, or the natives of the many islands we were fighting it out with them on but y’all have a skewed perspective of things so..
