Just tryna see if I’m messed up for calling my parents’ cousins…my cousins. Idk I understand that cultural s*** matters, I’m just very precise about who I call my Aunt or Uncle.
Aunt/uncle.
They're not your cousins. Their kids are - your second cousins.
Aren’t they technically your first cousins removed though? Like I get having respect for those in your parents’ generation, but it’s no reason why I should be calling my parent’s 14 year old cousin, “Uncle”

How old are your parents that they have a 14 year old cousin?
They are you first cousins once removed
imagine calling someone your first cousin once removed

Usually you just call them your cousin, but that's what they technically are
I usually would say "my mom's cousin", "my dad's cousin"

They’re in their 50s my great Uncle gets around 😹
Never met them
Typing "cousin" this many types has given me that feeling when a word looks inexplicably made up and not real
who?
Everyone who isn’t a sibling of my parents or a grandparent is a cousin. Debate ya moms
I'm Nigerian so every black adult older thn me is an Uncle/Aunty, regardless of whether we're related or not

He's doing it right
Never had that scenario personally. They're just similar ages to my parents so just been brought up to call them aunt/uncle and their kids my cousin's.
But interesting, learnt something new.

I’m half Ghanaian so it’s the same thing for me, I just hope I’m not disrespectful in the scenario that I don’t address someone as Auntie or Uncle. I live with my Dad (Ghanaian) but I spend most of my time/grew up with my Moms side (Black American) so I’m just used to addressing my parents’ cousins as my cousins.

Ghanaians are usually less strict about it in my experience but I still do it out of habit
I think they'd also understand that you grew up in a diff culture so u should be good either way
