Really good overall
The brevity and lack of reliance on cheesy pop was a good idea. When was the last time you really tried to hear BBTM or Starboy from front to back? (not knocking them or his pop side but still those two albums are too long and genuinely have some real issues with filler)
But the brevity doesn't really lead to a sense of greater focus. The last three songs feel connected to each other, but everything else feels kind of only unified by a willingness to go "dark and sad" again. There was a decent amount of experimentation but it didn't feel as fresh as the Trilogy's approach did. No way is it better overall than any installment of the Trilogy, although the fact that it's a little more playable in non-depressing situations is a win.
But overall I'd give it like a high 7 or low 8 out of 10. It felt kind of rushed, like he just dropped something random for the sake of new material for his festival touring schedule in 2018, after he scrapped the more optimistic Selena Gomez-inspired album when they broke up. It just sort of also worked out as a "reminder" to the fans that he could still make that dark s***, and to tide us over til whenever he drops Chapter 6. It didn't really feel intentional that it was so short, and the fact that it felt like it was going to be followed up by something else and still hasn't been, feels kind of suspicious/overly ambiguous and not impactful from a fan perspective.
Wasted Feelings is easily one of the best Weeknd songs of the last 4 years though.
i love it
second behind trilogy but hard to listen to often because of how much it resonates :/
The diet burial song & “call out my name” was cool but haven’t felt any urge to return since it dropped tbr
Played this b**** consistently from when it dropped to
Around spring this year
Definitely top 3
Mad chunes pon de head top
I really over played it so I can’t listen to it anymore
But when it first came out, call out my name, privilege, and wasted time is top tier weeknd! I was never there grew on me too. Also hurt you is over hated
literally a classic
Don't really f*** with it, sounds like a desperate attempt to reignite the trilogy flame when the fire's been already put out. Not his best production wise nor melody wise imo
