Here's more passive in-line filters the guy sells
https://diyaudioheaven.wordpress.com/headphones/passive-filters/
They are indeed a little bright, but out of the box it wasn't a deal breaker for me because I'm not all that treble sensitive. I found it very easy to do a little eq'ing to bring them down a tad. I plan on adding Schiits EQ device to my stack to make it easier on the fly.
If it's at all possible for you I would suggest giving them a chance. Maybe return them if you find the treble/eq'ing to be too much.
I can barely use my m50x and Fidelio X2 after getting the 1990. Two sets of headphones that I once thought sounded amazing and now are unlistenable.

Audio technica’s are overrated tbh, they have no sense of separation and are super comfortable. My AKG’s sound much better and more comfortable even though they’re the same price as M40X

I think i'll get these 1990s with the passive in-line filter. I'ma continue to shop around audiesciencereview to see if I could find a cheaper option that's just as good. Now that I know about these passive filters, there's now more to choose from

I only think they're overrated when people forget that they're only highly regarded for their price. A lot of people think they're just great headphones in general when it's only the case when you're comparing that price range.

Hell yeah I hope you get them. I know we have a lot of the same music and I can't wait to see your reaction to it. I'm gonna look into these passive filters because I still don't really understand them

500 is pretty steap too though. I want a pair with a very flat response, I don't want the sound to be goosed in any way. I'm looking at the HD600s because they're flat af, 100 less too. I wonder how they'd compare to the filtered 1990s.
this guys site is awesome, his reviews are very informative. I'm on the recommended headphones section atm, figured i'd post it here.

"Those looking for a ‘flat as possible’ headphone; the Sennheiser HD600 is the best possible option but does lack in subbass.
It can also be found in the second hand market. With a set of new pads they sound like new again. The HD580 (second hand only) is almost the same headphone.
A truly ‘flat’ headphone is not liked by everyone and may even sound boring to some.
Flat measuring headphones in general only sound excellent on well made recordings. In general TOP40 songs aren’t amongst those (with a few exceptions).
To many it will not be considered THE best sounding headphone, but it is one of the most ‘honest’ ones. It does lack sub-bass though.
A good option is the AKG K361 and K371, these are closed headphones but very neutral."
beyerdynamic dt 770 pro 80 ohm vs ath m40x
which ones should i get?
the goal is to have a headphone thats both for casual music listening and decent enough to produce with
i think i am typical person but i own pair of atx 50s in blue paid around 160aud for them
I just got a pair of bluetooth sony wf-sp700. Use them for working out and casual listening. I love the sound quality(not an audiphile by any means). Only problem is the battery not that great. Might cop the new version that's releasing with a much longer battery.
the m50s
if anybody have an idea for a possible real good upgrade plz tell me

First time hearing about this passive filter, I own both 1990 & HD660S. Tend to use the 660s more due to them being slightly more enjoyable but 1990s are much better for a***ytical listening with great soundstage and instrumentation separation. Then again I use a mojo which helps give the 660s some form of soundstage and natural tonality.
B pads do help with the treble but when alternating between the two cans the highs are quite evident and severe with some music. Both 2 of the best headphones for the price, sure you’ll be happy with either. Not sure how different the 660 is to the 600 but can’t be that large.
AKG K371, just like M50x except more comfortable and better sound, costs the same too.
thx bruh! is it worth it tho? like I don't need 2 similar headphones i want a real upgrade in sound level

Thanks. I've decided on the filtered 1990s and for dac/amp, the modi 3 and magni heresy

Nice, they are great headphones.
I was looking at the modi3/magni stack but it took too long to become available here plus I wanted something portable so went with the chord mojo/poly stack.
Hope you like them.
airpods pro arrived

Tbh tho AKG K371 will probably be a slight improvement in sound where you'll get some more bass, wider sound, and less harsh treble. The biggest improvement in this regard will be the comfort, and the isolation is an improvement too.
If you want significant improvement in terms of sound then I'd look somewhere else
