I see all this tolerating people talk

but what about actually loving and respecting each other?

it's easy to see a foreigner starving and say ''oh too bad, god bless his soul'' but only a few go ''looks like he's been through s***, lets get him a fresh change of clothes''

Yup, platitudes about who’s more or less racist don’t matter when neither side will do anything to solve such a problem. Casual racism is still deep rooted in Europe. Slavery is still legal in the USA. Nobody’s better or worse, it’s all bad

We're all part of the problem. If we were not, our conscience would not bother us as much as it does

That's interesting. I'm studying FL acquisition (specifically English) so I always found the French immersion programs interesting, since you guys are really the only place that does it that way.

How do you feel about your ability in French? Obviously fluent, but do you feel any limitations? Like, would you be comfortable attending a French university and taking classes in French?

A lot of the research I've read suggests that immersion program students become super communicatively competent (basically able to talk with no issue to anybody) but struggle when it comes to formal grammar/writing rules, so I was curious how you felt about it in that regard.

I can converse French with everyone, easy. When you’re immersed in a language (media, arts, songs, movies, etc), you can pick up the vocal. I can also work in a professional environment where comprehensive French speaking is mandatory.

I can read, write & speak it lol, idk what else to say. The only thing I think I would find hard is to learn a new complex topic like Rocket science in FR, but that’d be natural, cuz FR is in fact my 3rd language.

Word, sorry for all the questions. I study teaching English as a FL in an Asian context, where immersion programs aren't so common, so I never get to talk/ask immersion students questions about their experiences haha

Honestly just memorizing as many words and phrases as you can goes the longest way like any language. Actually write characters down and equally practice all forms (speaking, listening, writing, reading).

Idk if you're looking to start with a class/tutor or alone but having someone around who's native will get you into their flow. Even if its a native you made friend with. Mimic them.

the only real catch about the language are tones and writing characters (both won't be big hurdles over time). Chinese does not have a lot of the s*** i find complicated about other languages like gendered words, conjugations, etc...

Def down to practice. i need to get back into it myself its been a few months. I'm advanced still tryna push to fluency. I'll prob need to spend time in China before i close that gap (Immersion is important too if possible). i can try to hit you with basic resources i might know of. lot of people on youtube have good advice too

Yeah I'ts insane how having a few friends speak the language is pivotal to learning
Like my accent in spanish is 95% perfect lmfao just from being around coworkers for 3 years
Since school is in person im making friends, i got a homie from taiwan and another dude from mainland china so hopefully our relationship blossoms to where i can practice w/ em
Definetely throw those resources my way boss

All good fam! IMO, and experience, immersions the way to go to in order to learn how to speak a language (how it natively should be spoken).

The only way one can get comfortable reading/writing, is putting themselves through the experience (immersion won’t help much). They gotta READ French novels. WRITE French poems/short stories.

I’m fortunate because for 12 years straight, I spoke 3 languages on a daily basis almost.
