I remember as a kid watching MTV and the way Gorillaz marketed themselves as a real cartoon world pull me in. The music was good too obviously but there’s a world behind the characters that’s pretty rich/deep
Yep. I think Gorillaz came out first but it also looked like Teen Titans cartoon to me as a kid (which made me think s*** was connected when I was really young and just seeing them around) and even benefitted from being out around the same time as things like Toonami and BAPE
That + Feel Good Inc. Apple commercial/MTV spamming the video imprinted them in my head before I even heard an album lol
Wonder how an animated band would work today independently without the connections/media infrastructure for what I just mentioned
they suck ass now but Demon Days is one of my favorite albums of all time and Plastic Beach is really good too
Unpopular or whatever but I feel like the now now was their best album since plastic beach
I f***ing hate Damon Albarn’s voice on Gorillaz
19-2000 remix is their best song which says a lot
they have a few good songs but most of them sound boring, also the rappers they feature are usually 80’s style rappers and absolute trash
Haven’t listened to them in ages but self titled and demon days were a huge thing when they came out.
They were like the world’s first 2d animated band but other than that, not a lot really interests me about them
It’s wild that Gorillaz are still making great music after decades.
Damon really is one the most consistent artists
Also just from looking through this thread i can see that all of their post Plastic Beach music is severely overlooked and under appreciated, which is unfortunate
They’ve dropped a lot of great songs after their hiatus
to me they sound like one of those free albums that used to come with windows media player back in the day

Despite liking "Humanz" I'm cool with this take
to me they sound like one of those free albums that used to come with windows media player back in the day
This probably the wildest take I’ve ever seen on Gorillaz music

Wait are you saying the music sounds cheap?
This probably the wildest take I’ve ever seen on Gorillaz music
It’s generic vibey tv commercial music that feels hollow and flat. NERD does that whole 2000s feel-good, genre blending lane better
I’ve only listened to demon days though

Song machine 1 from 2020 is just nothing but bangers, some of their best tracks on there

That's what you get out of Demon Days?

I can’t lie, I don’t see how Demon Days feel commercial to you
There’s no other album that sounds like Demon Days, and Demon Days isn’t even a radio friendly sounding album.
It doesn’t have a feel-good vibe, the sound and vibe is dark
There’s like 2 songs on that album that I could imagine being used in a commercial
