it also feels like it kinda encapsulates the way rock essentially just became "indie" even after the style(s) became more mainstream and essentially lost the original meaning. in early 00s there were still obviously non-indie huge rock bands but i think as the decade ended those faded out and in the 2010s and now the good rock mostly falls under the indie umbrella or alternative at the very least
Is This It doesn't really sound anti-mainstream and it's also pure rock enough to be a good broad answer even though there are indie rock albums I enjoy more. its the sound of pure unadulterated rock for the new century, calling back to the past as well as into the future
its either that or Funeral for sure
100% Funeral as much as I dislike Win Butler's contributions to it and the album's mixing.
Arcade Fire's rise is also more true to the expectations of purists compared to the Strokes for sure.
is it because they were actually on an indie label, their background, or something else?

Julian Casablancas belongs to a wealthy gynaecologist dynasty
EDIT: Different guy, Julian's dad was the wealthy head of a modelling agency who did a lot of sexual abuse
Is This It is the answer. always thought that album was ass
The New Abnormal out now
Is This It fasho but Oracular Spectacular is in that convo
The xx as well it just was really late

oh yeah i knew they all came from wealthy backgrounds, i just dk if that's why they were so successful. ik Julian had really bad daddy issues

The New Abnormal out now

The guy I was thinking of was Enrique Iglesias, his father was famous singer Julio Iglesias, and his father was this guy

Not really “Indie Rock” but it’s important
its not fully "indie rock" but i think it's still one of the better choices because it represents the broadening of the "indie" and "rock" labels as a whole. there are albums coming out that are basically descendants of indie rock with other influences too, but people don't really categorize them like that. and oracular spectacular definitely feels like one of the first among that breed
TNA is my favorite album from them though
i need a bit more variety than the album offers
but i haven't listened too many times to be fair
Is This It fasho but Oracular Spectacular is in that convo
The xx as well it just was really late
that album doesn't get brought up enough nowadays. s***, i'd say their first 2 albums were mad influential when they dropped

have you listened to Room on Fire? it's very similar to Is This It, but i think quality wise it's on par

xx arguably more influential to """mainstream""" music than any album we listed here so far

yup i like Room on Fire a bit more. i also don't mind a few cuts on Comedown Machine.
is it because they were actually on an indie label, their background, or something else?
Julian coming from money no doubt would have upset some purists.
Arcade Fire was just some uni kids from an artsy neighbourhood in Montreal with a more "organic" coming together
yup i like Room on Fire a bit more. i also don't mind a few cuts on Comedown Machine.
