you really think Mr Morale is better music than Dawn FM? some of the beats on Mr Morale were subpar compared to Kendrick and Sounwave standards

I feel like if you aren’t a Kendrick fan and you never struggled with the issues he talks about on the project, the music is underwhelming and even subpar.

For example I can’t relate to GKMC either but that s*** is a masterpiece, undeniable good music. Mr Morale doesn’t hit the same way

Yes I do, but not to s*** on Dawn because I was a big defender of the album

Production styles are completely different so its weird to compared but both of the albums have excellent production. United In Grief, Worldwide Steppers, Crown to name a few moments that stand as production gems for me.

But I think Morale has much better song writing, a lot more relatable songs for me personally, and has way more substance and covers a lot of things that deal with mental health as a black man in america. Which is something that I think was very needed. Dawn is in my top 10 of the year most likely though , great album as well. I love Gasoline, Out Of Time, Don’t Break My Heart, Less Than Zero those are all some of my fav songs this year especially Gasoline

that last bit is interesting. i think it can simply be chalked up to having differing values in what makes music "good."

I feel like that’s a chronically online opinion to find Morale subpar, like people who are to used to calling everything mid and lost their ability to realize that just because they don’t like something it doesn’t make it bad.

Because even if you don’t like Morale or think GKMC is better there is nothing “subpar” about the album

Personally I prefer good melodies and progression over dope concepts. Feel like Mr Morale would have worked better as a book or something imo. There’s still some songs on that project that I f*** with, really want a Kendrick project over Mr Morale (the song) type production

I understand that completely, I don’t think its a bad opinion to have Dawn FM as AOTY its a f***ing great album but I feel like music discussion has went down the drain because of people not explaining what they think just either calling something garbage or a classic without explaining which leads both sides to get irritated

If you’re someone who values writing, introspection, and relatability Mr Morale is an excellent album

If you’re someone who values production value, great melodies, and grooves Dawn FM is an excellent album.

Just depends on where your ear is at tbh
