    is that why the vocals sound a little 'flat'? genuinely curious, cause imo the vocal quality of JiK and Ye were a pretty noticeable step down, and WUITB vocals sound like this as well

    No it’s not, at least not with Ye. He used the same Sony mic on Ye

    Actual answer: he's been seen using a Shure SM58 lately. Allows him to hold it in his hand which a lot of artists prefer as it emulates performing live on stage. It's only a $100 mic but it's the industry standard live wired vocal mic that pretty much everyone uses. With the right EQ, compression and mixing it can compete with a condenser, it's just not gonna sound as open and airy, as it tends to pick up whatever is closest to the capsule and rejects room sound as much as possible. I'm an audio engineer and am very familiar with the mic, and you can totally tell it's used all over JIK, and it sounds like it was used on WUITB as well.
