Recommendations from friends. Just find a person/group of people who really know their s*** and go from there, becomes easier if they already like the same s*** as you.
Lately I use mostly letterboxd & search through directors who I’m interested in filmographys, I keep tabs** on studios I like etc neon ifc etc
stop bookmarking every single thing you see. its easier to make a decision when youre presented with 3 options instead of 50. if you are already overwhelmed by the amount of film out there, why would you continue increasing your amount of bookmarked films? show some self discipline
"best stuff to watch" means absolutely nothing because (i assume) you are your own individual person with your own individual preferences when it comes to media. searching up the highest rated movies on letterboxd doesnt mean those are the best movies to watch, it just means those are the movies that appeal to the largest demographic on the website
just open up a random year on letterboxd and browse through whatever got released. use your brain, read a synopsis, watch the first thing that sounds interesting. its a 2 hour movie that you can stop watching at any time if it ends up being s***. youre not being forced at gunpoint to watch the whole thing.
Y’all got watch lists written down?
You can go through the Last Movie You Watched thread on here

I know but he can put films that ppl recommend in there on his watchlist
I started diving into movies last year and the AFI’s top 100 and the BFI sight and sound’s top 100 were great places to start. There are iconic movies, but also some underrated classics that aren’t talked about enough today.
Most of the movies are pre-2000’s though, if that matters

Nah this makes hella sense I only bookmarked so much because I feel like I missed out on everything

Do you feel like having watchlists are kinda overrated in sense like usually people watch stuff out of instinct but with watchlists it makes you go in a specific order
Also link y'all letterboxd here if you y'all can please I see you guys having gems
If there's an actor/actress/director or writer Im familiar with, attached to something new, I'll check it out.
Just like if an artist is featured on someone else's song, or a producer that I like did something for someone new, I'll check it out.
For example, I checked The Deuce out because it was from David Simon, who did The Wire. And many actors from the show were in it.
Or some days I'll just look for a trailer and if I like what I see within the first couple of minutes I'll stick with it. It's a hit or miss approach but it usually works.

half of the stuff in my watchlist will never be watched but its nice to have 99 options (according to idmb)

I remember I just started watching all the movies on my sister's laptop. I got to like certain actors then got their best movies and from there I fell in love with certain stories so I got the other movies of the director. If you already have a long list though id say just watch based on vibes. If you feel like watching horror check your list for horror films. I cant watch a movie without knowing theres a good chance I'll like it. I check the user reviews on imdb since it's people like you and me giving their opinions about the movie and not pretentious critics. If there are a number of ateast 9/10 reviews then I brace myself for the ride

This real as f***. Also the thing is I don’t even have a list written down exactly just like top 10 lists bookmarked and hella Reddit pages. I’m so new to this movie s*** that I get super overwhelmed but how much is out there tbh

I got top 10 lists too and reddit and ktt film threads bookmarked for years now. I've hardly ever used them. I aways have a certain actor or director or genre i want to watch then I just google their best movies or the best movies in that genre and check imdb for reviews. Before I knew the actors or directors or genres I was interested in I'd just click a movie on my sister's laptop, skim through it and see if it catches my eye. If it does then I watch it. I'd say you should check the reviews before you watch though even if it looks good when skimming through it

literally i just use wikipedia to check out actors and directors' filmographies and then put them on my watchlist on letterboxd. i also use letterboxd to check out directors filmogs as well.
i really don't care for buncha random ppl's lists. the ppl i follow on LB to see their favorite movies, recent logs, and their lists is more than enough for me
