Sure I’ll give him that, Drake is amazing at that. I credit him and Cudi really for bringing melodic flows to the rap game.

He’s still not touching Kendrick tho man lol

Kendrick’s rhyme schemes, cadences, timing, ability to change pace on a dime, abstract wordplay, creative use of his voice, his imagery, the level of emotion in his delivery, and yes the way he’s able to string all that together to convey powerful messages is all time great

Kendrick is literally one of the most talented rappers to ever live bro

That’s fine but drake does have better punch lines than Kendrick

Punchlines still matter, Drake is a wittier rapper than kendrick. I’ve honestly been more wowed at drakes double entendres and punchlines than Kendrick’s

Never denied that, even as someone who isn’t a fan of Kenny I can’t deny he is one of the most gifted rappers I’ve ever seen

WRT the attributes you mentioned, I think Drake is on equal footing regarding cadences, creative use of his voices, emotional delivery, and timing

Rhyme schemes, abstract wordplay and pace changing ill give to kendrick

but tbh they approach the game so differently that its hard to make a 1:1 comparison

I think songwriter is what he personally admitted is his strongest skill above all else

Yeah that’s Drakes strength. I think there are rappers who technically can edge him out but as a songwriter Drake is a master craftsmen. That’s why he’s a legend. There are a lot of great rappers who just can’t make great songs, especially at the rate at which drake does it

Yup, that’s pretty much how I feel about his pen. Drake is a very good/elite technical rapper but he might be one of, if not THE greatest songwriter of all time

  • Drake is an amazing songwriter and early in his career was going bar for bar with some legends. He’s in that space, man loves battle rap

Punchlines have always been a staple of rap, although now its referred to as “quotables”

It’s much harder than you think to be able to get a concise powerful line across that sticks in peoples heads years later

That’s because they are easier to understand

Drake’s lyrics are very straight forward

Kendrick’s lyrics are intentionally abstract and left to interpretation

Kendrick doesn’t waste time with “look what I can do” punchlines because he is always focused 100% on conveying whatever message or emotion he’s tapping into.

    Rap in its purest form

Well we all got different tastes I guess. I dont even think drake’s punchlines are particularly “look what I can do” bars, most of the time they go along with his verse he’s never really been a pretentious rapper.

I’m a fan of battle rap so maybe that’s why I prefer Double entendres/punchlines/metaphors more than other qualities. Kendrick is more of a storytelling/theme-based rapper imo but is still very skilled

Idk where else to take the convo from here buddy because I hard disagree with all this basically 🤣

And don’t get me wrong Drake is in my top 10 so I am VERY familiar with what he can do. I can rap most of his verses word for word. S*** like LPF Only you freestyle etc is mind blowing

But he STILL not on the same level as Kendrick

The thought of it makes me chuckle actually

i dont think this is entirely true

kendrick knows how to show off with lyricism without explicitly doing so

    That’s where y’all have Kendrick f***ed up

It’s not “for the sake of complexity”

    It never was

    Kendrick’s complexity is completely natural

It just spills out of him
