Flying out to Chicago in 3 weeks, what are the must see or do or eat there? Already have 100 gecs tree, deep dish pizza (need a spot) and the bean.
southside.
The whole thing or a specific area? Was going to see Kanye’s childhood home
posted this for another user in KTT but:
for sure.
general sight-seeing stuff:
-you can check out the boring s*** a la the Bean, but the coolest "popular" attractions are Shedd Aquarium and the Art Institute/MOCA.
-if you're into hiphop, check out do312.com/worldofundergroundhiphop. there's a big underground scene here, and a lot of open mic places as well.
-if you have the money and your trip lines up, please check out a Bears/Cubs/Sox game. they're super fun, even if you're not very into sports. baseball games esp are really chill with a couple friends
-if you're into records, stop by reckless.com. they've got a f***ton of stuff most of the time, and they also rotate more vintage/rare pieces in their collection depending on the store you go to.
for food/drink:
-giordano's is overrated. lou malnati's s***s on them in deep-dish pizza. other recommendations include: Vito & Nick's (Ashburn), Fox's (Beverly), Pucci's (East Side), Beggar's (various locations), Rico's (Lansing), and Stephano's (also Lansing).
-ITALIAN BEEF. you need some, even if you don't think you do. Johnnie's Beef and Lukes on Harlem are my go-tos. Keep in mind that you need to specify how "wet" you want the beef (how marinaded it is): "dry", "wet", and "dipped". I recommend either dipped or dry for your first one. also, choose what peppers you want: hot, sweet, or giardiniera.
-if you drink coffee, check out Ipsento. the people there are extremely meticulous and experts in making coffee. it's also a super chill place.
-if you somehow find yourself on the southside (which you probably shouldn't tbh), places like Mosque Maryam and other Nation of Islam locations will sell bean pies. these are sorta like pumpkin pies with a more savory and unique taste, and they are absolutely delicious and cheap. they're hard to come by though, and I don't recommend looking out for these locations on your first visit.
for night-life:
-just stay around River North. if you walk around there are a f***ton of luxe bars and clubs. it's mostly full of white folk tho
you can PM me for more recs, but honestly this should do well for your visit. the best thing to do depending on how long you're staying tho is to just walk around and check out whatever catches your eye
forgot to add this, but if you're interested in fashion too:
Sahil if you into Southeast Asian stuff. really interesting stuff there, but it's niche af
independence has great workwear stuff, but you prob heard of them already
look around oak street, that's where a bunch of boutiques are located.
merz apothecary (lincoln square) for skincare/hair products/fragrances. that s*** is like my mecca
for vintage stuff, check out Kokorokoko on n. milwaukee avenue. mostly 80's/90's stuff tho
Assuming we don’t shut down in 3 weeks most ppl in Chicago go out to wriggleyville or river north for night life

na i feel that lol. we actually reopened a lot of indoor s*** like a lil over a week ago, so you’ll be able to see/do some s*** at least.
if you want deep dish hit up Giordano’s for sure
also like other dude said, you gotta try some Italian beef. literally the staple Chicago food along with deep dish. gotta get it with all the toppings too
if you smoke, definitely hit up Sunnyside Dispensary. almost always have the widest selection of products, and they have two different Chicago locations, Lakeview and River North.

The other guy said Giordano’s was overrated, true or not true?

well it’s the most popular so of course it’s overrated, but i’ve had deep dish from multiple places and it’s the best lmao. there’s a reason it’s the most popular, ya know?
you gotta love all the people itt acting like gun violence and crime is funny, while also obviously being ignorant of the fact that 99% of it is isolated to certain neighborhoods in the South Side and far North. f***ing idiots
