NGL from experience the bar is extremely low for any type of Engineering/IT work just look put together.

Since you are on a fashion forum I assume that shouldn't be a problem and you should be good

So im applying for a job as an it guy at a psychology research agency. My usual work wear probably doesnt matchup so i gotta step my game up. Any advice?

I checked their site, the it crowd there does wear the usual buttoned up shirt style but i cant see myself wearing that

What state are you in OP?

Depending on the state, your local Urban League will be able to provide you a suit for free.

It’s a national program called “Dress for Success”

I don’t know the IT culture in Netherlands but I’ve been explicitly told NOT to wear a suit to IT interviews in the US

can usually do no wrong with business smart/casual

unless it's like a career/corp type business i don't see why someone would wear a suit
