Don't necessarily need to be 5 years of underperforming to be the worst 5 year period
I guess I get it but still. Like the post below me says 5 years is pretty long for a worst period in rap. We've had some bad years but I don't know about half a decade of bad.
This should have been shortened down to 2 years cause there’s truly no 5 year period of bad hip hop.
Now if I shortened down to 3 years it would def have to be 18-21
I would say the last 5 years however the underground scene saw a lot of new light with dudes like Mach, Griselda, Elhzi dropping some heat, 38 Spesh, even Royce kind of getting in his bag again.
Just depends on what you mean. Mainstream, yeah pretty underwhelming outside of a few albums here and there. We getting some people starting to find their sound though.
Rap tryna transition outta the trap wave, we like almost out of it. I think it’s gonna turn a corner and we gonna have something new and crazy in a couple years that is gonna dominate this next decade.
the last 5 years of underground rap make it silly to suggest those are the worst five years tbh

I initially thought it was but thinking about how much underground rap has grown in the last 5 years makes me feel like it’s disrespectful to say the last 5 were bad

I agree with the first part of your post.
Idk what the second part means but it sounds bad so imma just stick to the first part LMAO
theres no consecutive 5 years of bad material in the genres history
even if one year was lackluster, the following would be crazy
Hell nah. Way too much classic music in this era. The lows were low but the highs are great. We got prime Wayne, peak Kanye, MOTM, SFG, prime TI/Jeezy, and prime Game out of this era.
I'd take soundcloud era over ringtone era any day
Yet "Buy U A Drank" which is a ringtone rap staple probably has more staying power than a lot of soundcloud rap hits.
Facts.

I fixed it cause it was a little crazy but I think 18 to 21 were the worst if I had to pick 3 years of bad hip hop lol

21 aint even over. 20 classics can drop in the next 6 months and it would change the trajectory.. and u can easily do 5 years. 2016 to 2020 was actually lowkey kinda lame or at least the beginning of a great era before it.

2017 and 2018 and 2019 were all mid af

every era has highlights but its yet to be seen how long SC era stuff lasts
Carti/Uzi's hits will always knock

I can’t do that cause 2016-2017 had lots of gems. I think 2018 was the start of the big names making mid projects and now we get like 2-3 classics a year
but you’re right about 2021 although I think Tyler and Mach only currently have the best projects. We’ll see what happens though

2017 was not mid at all lol

Bro im wanting something new sooo f***ing bad. Im over this trap sound bro. Its so god damn redundant.. tyler dropping really made me realize how different music can sound in rap if mfs just tried.

You said 2 years though?
Why you doing a 3 year stretch when you said 2 years
2003-2008 actually is probably the weakest
thats literally the prime of the best rapper of all time
