    Trap a holic

carti goated because hes such a vulture that if music comes out next year in march as a collab album with d'angelo nobody would be surprised. he has the magic ability to be anybody to anyone and yet feel distinctly himself

He set the entire tone of the underground with one album lol

Hes already DOOM levels cult status. He just needs a generation to pass while retaining the current buzz to lock it in

I don't think Carti is cult anything. He's way more successful than Thug was in 2014/15. Way way more.

DOOM's body of work is so much denser and just bigger in general. He's got more beats out than Carti has legible 16s.

Strength of schedule is a fair criticism for sure especially in the landscape of rap but theres been legends established across music for less

i just see him as on the cusp already without pop type accolades or metrics. I think hes secured if the next gen of youth love his music just as much

By the looks of it, a lot of people are waiting on him to drop anything half decent and they’ll be ready to drop their panties for him

DOOM was never that popular. He was never pop. He was never Billboard.

This branding operation to conflate "underground" with "underground" has got to stop. it's so superficial.

He already is off WLR and the insane impact that album had on hip hop since.

i think we probably misinterpreted each other somewhere

Im basically saying to me Carti almost secured ATG status the same way DOOM did - which means doing it without numbers. I never tried to point out DOOM does billboard numbers like that

I understand if you disagree on my opinion with Carti being seen as ATG because of output and quality etc. tho

DOOM's in a different lane though.

He never made Billboard hits and he was Indie and a lyrical type of rapper. Earl is closer to being DOOM status in that regard.

Carti is way more commercial/mainstream than DOOM ever was and his biggest draw is his voice, adlibs, and production.

Carti has numbers. He sold 100k first week. He was #1 on YouTube for a week last time he dropped. He's popular. He's not a hitmaker.

And he has nothing in common with DOOM who dropped heat rock after heat rock
