i think Beyoncé and Drake dropping the albums they did will make space for Dawn FM to be appreciated more accurately. But it feels like something is still missing, what y'all think that is?
All I know is u named 3 masterpieces
If Less Than Zero or another song from it ends up becoming a hit at some point
Which is still possible, a lot of Weeknd’s hits became huge way after they released
the songs themselves are good but the radio theme and transitions are dumb as hell. that's it's only problem imo
Maybe I'm missing something but how would those other 2 help Dawn. They're not the same genre or concepts

Hold this L
it aint it but thats ok
hes killling s*** regardless
my theory is Dawn FM is really good music, but it was released at a time where no one extremely relevant was making the same type of, or at least making similar music.
so the context in which most people absorbed it was through the isolated lens of "this is The Weeknd's music". whereas right now, Beyoncé and Drake are also making throwback or offbeat "4 to the floor" music.
in the context of people are now making throwback music, Dawn FM seems less like the strange Canadian boys music and more like "oh s*** these niggas are making 70's music".
it's like something Drake said about Honestly, Nevermind, i'm paraphrasing but he essentially said "this is what we do, we are ahead of the curve and we just wait for everyone to catch up".
i think the translation of that statement into not Drake's ego/layman's terms is "the context isn't yet there for this album to exist, but it's coming".
like Drake's line in Wants and Needs "come with a classic, they come around years later and say it's a sleeper", the context just didn't exist for Dawn FM to thrive.
or so my theory goes....

check my other comment, i think it explains it a bit better
Dawn FM’s songs just aren’t catchy enough to capture the public outside of The Weeknd’s immediate reach and fanbase. I don’t even think it’s an active distaste for it

Just give it time.
People will come around to it

i don't think it's that they're not catchy, i think it's just that they existed without a context.
revisit this song, now that Renaissance and Honestly, Nevermind have come out, this song is crazy good:
Just give it time.
People will come around to it
i don't doubt it, the context in which this album is a masterpiece is coming, slowly but surely.

the drake record is a prime example of it not connecting
its drake, if it was great and connected it wouldve taken over the world easily
and yeah it couldve been a little ahead of its time, i think everybody making dance style music now could help, but in general to me that nostalgic 80s dance music sound is wack as hell
i think weeknds album expanded his audience worldwide and worked, i just think for someone whos been a long time abel fan, i dont like it at all
it's as simple as: there aren't any hits (as of yet) on the album. the pop stars need hits to carry they s***, luckily the album is still doing as well as it can in this environment without a hit
i don't think it's that they're not catchy, i think it's just that they existed without a context.

!https://youtu.be/rhTl_OyehF8This song was always crazy good
I don’t give a f*** about that s***, Dawn FM is a masterpiece for me and that’s all that matters
Lowkey the best album released in the past 5 years
