i don’t think Die For You blowing up rn is random
it’s because it’s on his setlist
Nah it was rising on streaming way before the tour started, it started going viral online at the end of 2021

It has been going viral since mid last year. But the tour gave it a big boost
Yeah it was huge on TikTok in the months rising to tour. May have always been in the setlist but the blow up for it def happened pre-tour
Someone else made a post super similar to that a long time ago, can’t remember who it was. But credit to them tho lol
Weeknds album is not the same as Drake n beyonce n most people f***ing hate Drakes HNM album outside of the 21 Savage song so idk how that would help your case
I feel like The main reason why I can personally appreciate Dawn FM is because I have prior experience with and an appreciation for 80s New Wave but it being 2022 I can easily see how if I didn’t, it would be a toss up on whether I’d f*** with it or not
my theory is Dawn FM is really good music, but it was released at a time where no one extremely relevant was making the same type of, or at least making similar music.
so the context in which most people absorbed it was through the isolated lens of "this is The Weeknd's music". whereas right now, Beyoncé and Drake are also making throwback or offbeat "4 to the floor" music.
in the context of people are now making throwback music, Dawn FM seems less like the strange Canadian boys music and more like "oh s*** these niggas are making 70's music".
it's like something Drake said about Honestly, Nevermind, i'm paraphrasing but he essentially said "this is what we do, we are ahead of the curve and we just wait for everyone to catch up".
i think the translation of that statement into not Drake's ego/layman's terms is "the context isn't yet there for this album to exist, but it's coming".
like Drake's line in Wants and Needs "come with a classic, they come around years later and say it's a sleeper", the context just didn't exist for Dawn FM to thrive.
or so my theory goes....
This would be a good point if those other 2 albums were anything like dawn fm
I don't wanna hear no more 80s synth pop s*** from the weeknd
Cue the Best Friends instrumental:
Synths no more... Nana synths no more...
The crowd that f***s with Beyoncé and Drake are not checking for weekend anymore.
i think Beyoncé and Drake dropping the albums they did will make space for Dawn FM to be appreciated more accurately. But it feels like something is still missing, what y'all think that is?
I think if he made the album more electronic like with some of the remixes people would’ve come around on it by now

I thought Weeknd and Drake had a huge overlap in fans right?
i don't think it's that they're not catchy, i think it's just that they existed without a context.
revisit this song, now that Renaissance and Honestly, Nevermind have come out, this song is crazy good:
!https://youtu.be/rhTl_OyehF8Between this song, Sacrifice and Out of time, Dawn should have been just as popular as f***ing BBTM was and I’ll never understand why but I think it had to do with the way and time it was released. It was smack in the middle of the Omnicron surge and folks were not going out/appreciating music like they are now. He also hasn’t done anything really to make these songs standout (memorable videos, appearances (aside from touring), etc. It’s just going to be appreciated fully by music lovers and abel stans.
I think it’s top 3 this year tbh

it's because there was no rollout
Abel needed to push the singles to get folks to love the album
Beyonce let Break My Soul sit for a month before the album came out and got a #1 with it

The old man gimmick turned people off, plus people were just going through a bit of weekend fatigue I mean blinding lights was everywhere like a year before

This too, I’m pretty sure the only rollout the album had was the Lamar text/take my breathe drop
