ppl hype up discogs, but honeslty, that s*** just frustrating and trash
discogs is ass for me due to currency rate & shipping costs
its only useful if i was looking specific pressing of lesser known record
apart from that its cool to have to track your collection
There's nowhere. Same thing happened with DOOM vinyl when he passed. So combine a high demand with an already low supply because all the pressing plants are backed up, you're just gonna have to wait for represses whenever those happen
Dooms records actually sound amazing on vinyl but I wouldn't pay no stupid prices it'll all get re released eventually.
a***og records sound 100% better than the albums sound on streaming tbh. The digital pressed ones dont.
Yeah if you're into older music vinyl is good. Although any CDs that are issued of that once-vinyl-only older music always sound good af

I'm also not a person who really much cares about original pressings and such, which makes discogs basically useless

Real one f*** all that stupid s*** just gimme the music b
my set up thoughh
This is beautiful
Like the other guy said. Don’t stack records like that though
As someone who has a collection of over 200 now and have been collecting since 2016, there's multiple appeals for me. One, it's something to be proud of collecting. I'm able to support the artists I listen to (now especially since touring hasn't been possible) and I can look at my collection and there's something just meaningful seeing how many albums I have. Second, there's something cool about finding original presses of albums too. I have plenty of old classic rock, p-funk, and r&b albums from the 70's and it kinda makes me feel like I have a piece of history from that time period. A lot of new vinyl is absolute garbage in terms of pressing quality (digital sources, s***ty vinyl quality/qc), but it's still a way I can display my love for music while also having fun collecting it
is it worth joining?
its expensive, but the pressings are great and they get amazing reissues, along with colored vinyl. Like this month will be Kala by MIA. I just got At Folsom Prison last month, which is now going for 250 on discogs lol
Finding original pressings can sometimes be overrated but honestly as someone who's bought his fair share of re-issues, I've ended up selling a ton and used the money to get near mint og's off discogs because they sound that much better.. I also have an LP-120 turntable which is when you can really start noticing the difference in vinyl quality
CDs are primed for a massive comeback soon. It's going to be crazy. Trying to swoop in while the prices are low
Chill the f*** out, no one needs to hear this s***. I have nightmares of the day my local records shop and thrift shops start selling CDs above 5 dollars a piece
pretty much everything that's been said already (art, better sound, collectible, etc.)
but more than anything I imagine having a collection of my current favourites to give to a future son or daughter some day. Just some cool relics of contemporary music to pass on.
btw never ever do vnyl, its a f***ing rip off. They just give you baragin bin records every month
Younger people like to use it as a collectable and also a way to show people that they're more info music than non record collectors.
Old people might have a little more valid reasons but I doubt it. Mostly just collectables

If I ever have a kid, I'm giving them a book that'll teach em how to sell them if they don't want them lmao. I've got some griselda records, dom kennedy yellow album, nip hussle crenshaw, and quite a bit of alchemist records that easily go for $200+
My kid better keep him but if he's gonna be dumb enough to get rid of em, he better do it right
Instead of getting an expensive turntable and records just drop a few extra hundred on your sound system it's a way better investment

don't know if i am willing add another subscription to my billing a month
