I think you underestimate what self-reflection is.
It's facing and expressing uncomfortable truths about yourself.
Jay Z is an excellent poet, but his appeal is that he paints more vivid pictures than the average dope boy turned millionaire.
I'll ask this again, what has Jay Z revealed to you about himself that doesn't paint him a good/sympathetic light?
H to the Izzo last verse one of the most self reflective verses ever made
Nas, Eminem... I hear Black Thought did something in that vein even though I haven't checked it out.
even though I havent checked it out
And that’s the problem
even though I havent checked it out
And that’s the problem
How is that a problem?
Honestly never got why people urge Drake to drop a 4:44 when Jay Z was in his 40s talking about spilling ace on his Jordan’s in the club and bragging about icing out Rolexes all on WTT
Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer have classics.
certain takes should just result in perma bans
How is that a problem?
You cant point out another artist to try to s*** on another artist when you yourself didnt even listen to said artist you tryna bring up
@mods

Have you heard Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em?
If a Morgan Wallen album continues to be consistently listened to by a large number of people 5-plus years after its release, then it's definitely a classic.
Your opinion about him sadly isn't weighty enough to overcome that particular metric.
I disagree but I won’t argue your opinion bro.
Nas & Em never made me feel what 4:44 did so thats the big deal lol
I do think its annoying when people act like every rapper needs to copy the album though
Yea, that's def wrong because Jay-Z made 2 collab albums with R. Kelly
tf does that have to do anything
what kinda snapple fact ass reply is this
This guy said Jay Z finally made self reflective content
Most people on here have only heard RD (maybe), Blueprint, Black Album, MCHG and WTT lol
One of the best rap albums I've ever heard and popularised this wave of rappers dropping "therapy" albums. I can't imagine enjoying rap and not appreciating this album at least just in terms of that

KD3 is something serious…

It didn't though? That was Recovery.
It didn't though? That was Recovery.
Just because he did it first doesn’t mean he’s the one who inspired people to do it
Don’t think I’ve ever heard a single rapper list that album as inspiration

I said popularised, not started. Nobody looking at washed 2010s Eminem for inspiration

Oh, I haven't checked.
Who's listed 4:44?
I said popularised, not started. Nobody looking at washed 2010s Eminem for inspiration
So the more popular album by far did not popularize it.
Lool, okay.
Oh, I haven't checked.
Who's listed 4:44?
4:44 -> Melt My Eyez See Your Future, Mr Morale etc -> Chromokopia, It's Been Awful etc
