And if possible can an artists be both?
I was just thinking we say this person is an icon and that person is legend. What’s the difference because an icon can be someone who made an impact same with a legend.
Are there artists who are both iconic and legendary?
hov, andre 3k, wayne, kanye, and drake are examples of artists who are iconic and legendary in hip-hop
If you had to separate them you could say that an icon is an icon in a certain field whereas a legend trancends all
Eg.
Fashion icon (Rocky)
Legend (Michael Jackson) because he’s an ”icon” in everything basically
The overuse of the word ”legend” has f***ed the game up.

blueface won... icon of the year
Whats the difference between a shy but lowkey crazy white boy and that one special homie that always asks how your day is going
To me, an icon is someone who's very famous either from their image or music and a household name. Their music can be trash af but they're still icons.
A legend is someone who's super respected by peers in the same industry and help to a high standard. They may not be famous but they're still legends.
Then, you have people who are both famous enough to be icons and respected enough to be legends.
That's how I see it.
speaking about the music scene:
An icon is an artist who was very successful for a limited period of time, and has few classic songs or albums. Per example, TI.
A legend has more longevity and more influence. Per example, JAYZ
Every legend is also an icon. But icons are not legends. So you can be both.
They are just different levels, different statuses.
I would say it goes:
Hot artist —> Trendy artist —> Icon —> Legend
It’s very easy to reach the icon status but reaching the legend status is much much harder. Kendrick, Drake, Kanye are still icons.
I agree its mostly semantics, but I feel like on a certain level an icon is a champion of the people who has/had a certain amount of influence over pop culture, while a legend transcends just being influential to appear above human.
Schoolboy Q could be seen as an icon for his run around 2013; being part of multiple hits, remixes, dropping a critically acclaimed album, and making everyone want a bucket hat.
Cara Delavigne was certainly a fashion icon back in the day and had a lot of girls on that thick brow wave.
Unless something major happens, though, I don't see either or them transcending their field and being universally viewed as "legendary".
Thats the way I see it anyway, and its not disrespect in any way. I just think truw legendary status is something very few within a generation can truly obtain.
Legend means reverence people have for your craft.
Icon more deals with popularity
Or that’s how I see it anyways.
Eg XXX was iconic for the phase of music but no one will call him legendary.

agreed with almost everything except the last part.
all of them are legends

Very good way to put it
Snoop = Icon
Cam'ron = Legend

TI has few classic songs? Lmao
Snoop = Icon
Cam'ron = Legend
Literally the other way around.
Literally the other way around.
Disagree.
Snoop transcends the hip hop community.
Cam'ron is a legend in hip hop, but doesn't touch Snoop in terms of international recognition.
