i couldn't agree more. rocky patterned himself after cam and has gone on to give him a lot of credit for laying the groundwork for him and other harlem rappers.
a good way to find out if a nigga is a fraud, outsider or just late to the game is to question him and see if knows anything about dipset. if not, he's either too young or was a lame nigga wearing g-unit tank tops and reeboks in the mid 2000's

I was a kid during their prime but my cousins who were huge Fab fans always had Dipset playing at the crib. Rarely heard G-unit from them, just 50.
Cam videos on WorldStarhiphop was wild af too

lol nah i'm from NY but man it's crazy ppl don't realize how big Dipset were. G-Unit was obviously big but Dipset had bigger and more interesting personalities in their group. damn Teal out here, man knows the gems
speaking about the music scene:
An icon is an artist who was very successful for a limited period of time, and has few classic songs or albums. Per example, TI.
A legend has more longevity and more influence. Per example, JAYZ
Every legend is also an icon. But icons are not legends. So you can be both.
They are just different levels, different statuses.
I would say it goes:
Hot artist —> Trendy artist —> Icon —> Legend
It’s very easy to reach the icon status but reaching the legend status is much much harder. Kendrick, Drake, Kanye are still icons.
T.I is not an icon. Icons are Snoop, Dre, Pac, Nas, Wayne, Drake, Kanye, Eminem etc... These guys have inspired millions and are still held in high regard today for their art and/or personalities.
However, T.I is a legend. People with longevity such as him, Lupe, Juicy J etc..
Also, all Icons are legends.
If you had to separate them you could say that an icon is an icon in a certain field whereas a legend trancends all
Eg.
Fashion icon (Rocky)
Legend (Michael Jackson) because he’s an ”icon” in everything basically
The overuse of the word ”legend” has f***ed the game up.
Rocky is a styled icon NOT a fashion icon and yes there is a difference

dipset was more in a in-crowd type of thing. the epitome of of "if you know, you know". g-unit was massive and all over the radio, but those who really paid attention to music and was ahead of the curve always favored dipset. the first time i saw juelz on tv was in 2005 and i remember it was also the first time i saw a rapper wearing tight clothes. i knew even then that it was a watershed moment and the next year is when everybody started catching on. wayne (juelz's right hand man, at the time) rode the wave and popularized it.
2005 drip.
