Capitalism really won tricking men into wanting these expensive as consoles that do the exact same thing as the old ones

The PS5 s***s on my base PS4. You talking out your ass lol. The controller alone is worth the upgrade.

I'd usually agree with this if it were about virtualy any other modern consumer electronic.
But at the very least each game console generation have consistently managed to stick around for long enough to justify the idea of improved technology that warrants an upgrade. (Which is far more than what can be said for the smartphone and personal computing markets, and those are quite a bit larger than the vg console market.)
The real question is: will this last? I doubt it. I'm sure the gap between generations will still be a decent chunk of time, but the leaps in technology will inevitably become unjustifiable. (I'm sure we're already on this downward slope, it just hasn't gotten to any extreme inclines yet.)
We've already seen a shift towards peripheral gimmicks over the past couple generations (mainly from Sony and Nintendo). And VR is still far away from reaching its potential, both in user experience and as a commercial product, but once it is then that will be a huge market competitor to traditional consoles.
What your post perfectly describes though is the early Intellivision/Home Pong years haha. There were dozens of different home consoles with different box designs and controller layouts, but they all literally played the same handful of games.
Some of them even came with plastic sheets that you just put over your tv screen and each had different fields from various sports drawn on them. Wanna play Pong? How bout Pong on a hockey rink? Or Pong on a tennis court? Or Pong on a football field? Or Pong on...

Yeah thats true I guess that comment makes more sense for phones or computers but even those have increases in speed and technology I meant it more in the sense that it's a device that plays games and its expensive but everyone buys it because its required to play the latest and next generation of games.

And the only reason ps4 pro dropped was because of 4K TVs
We might not see a pro this gen
