sales
I listen to the album all week and then I listen to the deluxe at the end of the week, I'm musically edging
exceeding initial streaming projections
also, people who played the album just for a day have a reason to revisit
sales
The more songs on the album the more sales in the first place. Are they expecting people to re listen to the whole album again once the deluxe comes out?
Its kinda a double edged sword. On one hand it lets you beat initial sales projections or narrowly outsell another album if 2 albums close for #1.
Other hand, the deluxe songs dont get a full sales week. If they dropped with the initial album it would result with more units
Just release all the songs at once. It’s ridiculous.
most same week deluxe albums are just the throwaways that didnt make the album but get put out anyways when a label sees underwhelming streaming numbers / sales to try and regain hype. I guarantee Post Malone didnt want these 2 songs on his album but Republic Records forced his hand
I kinda like it sometimes it’s like when you order the main course & the waiter brings out a lil extra dumpling compliments of the chef
Jokes aside its to increase engagement after the first few days. Make a person go back and do a full listen with the context of new tracks and boost sales numbers
Lebron literally explained this
!https://youtu.be/fqejc4ne6CECan’t believe Lebron invented albums
Can’t believe Lebron invented albums
It’s why I have him slightly ahead of MJ
Deluxe used to make sense like ud get more songs, a different cover art, maybe a video, for a price that was a bit more expensive than the standard, now it's just about cramming as many songs in a single album lol
My pet peeve is releasing the original one year and then the deluxe next year cuz then I have no solid year to go with as the official
Deluxes are just trash usually anyway. I really don’t like the trend like why wouldn’t you just realease all them songs in the first place on the original and call it a day
At least back in the day when you went out to buy a physical the deluxe could be a little more money for the extra songs and alternate art if it had that so it kinda had a reason
But in streaming era it’s dumb
standard edition is for the mainstream fans that just want the main songs
deluxe versions have slightly more songs for super fans and are a lil bit more expensive
Engagement, sales and marketing
Why are you acting dumb OP
I was thinking to myself “who at 5 in the morning would enter a KTT thread just to be a d***” and then I saw CLB in your username and it all made sense.

It doesn't always work for battling for #1. Dawn FM had the alternative deluxe songs first week and still flopped. I think dropping later during the week causes confusion and dropping right away maximizes the sales
