i’m considering taking a year off to get my s*** together, but i’m praying i will get too comfortable not going back to school. all i need to do is apply to nursing school, but it’s very competitive here in Florida and the deadline to register this year has already passed

If you’ve taken a gap year, what was your experience like and would you recommend it?

i speedran college (community tho ahaha) and dropped out before i turned 18 and have only been on the up since

but i can't like recommend that but i do recommend taking some time especially if ur gonna have to take on some loans for it

i hear nuclear med tech is all the rage rn

  • So you've already graduated and have a bachelor's degree, but you want to get an additional nursing degree?

Take some time off. I wouldn't worry about becoming complacent. When the time comes you'll get back into school mode.

My friend flunked out like 6 years ago and started back in school this past year. He saved up and moved up in his job so he can afford his classes and went back to it

It’s very easy to get comfortable but if you REALLY wanna learn and all that good stuff make sure you have a plan and work towards it and figure out why you want to go back to school

    Best of luck op

  • should be standard

deciding the rest of your life on the spot and taking on debt for it at 18 is pretty ed if you think about it

I took one last year. Just make sure you have a plan and stay proactive during it. Don’t become a neet that’s the worst thing

idk context is different but I needed it and grew a lot on my own and found more time to myself cuz I didn’t really give myself that right outside high school.

I think hardest thing for me was I felt at times I missed my friend groups or I felt outside the circle not being on campus, but that’s was all in my head to an extent, I had to work on not needing validation from other people and be happy with myself, I was running from alot of stuff

Also I’m grateful b/c i think I wouldn’t have met ppl I know now because of a gap year, it

I took a gap year after my bachelors and it was the right choice. After HS is a good idea too imo. Not many other times in your life will you be able to take a year off

  • May 4, 2023

i took a "gap year" from college, did a 6 month-internship, did 6 months doing whatever

I still have difficulties getting back into the "academic mindset" (mainly about classes I don't care about)

going back to classes wasn't really hard, I got used to it pretty easily but it's getting your free-time eaten up by academic work that's hard to come back to

I would still take the gap year if I had to do it all over again though

  • This is the only time you’ll get to make a decision to take a year off before responsibilities creep in. I’d take advantage, school ain’t going anywhere

I don’t think gap years are a good idea. If you have a good reason to do so that will contribute to you becoming a nurse then that’s good, but just taking a year off for no reason isn’t beneficial. If you missed the deadline I guess you have no choice

What do you mean by get your s*** together? I don’t think gap years are a bad idea if it’s for the right reasons

But if it’s within your ability to just continue school without a break then you should do that and get it over with.

The faster you finishing nursing school the better off you’ll be. If I was in Florida I would finish ASAP, get some experience, and move to California first chance I get. I would not want to spend any more time in Florida than necessary, especially as an RN.

If u take one make sure u actually get ur s*** together, if not ur gonna feel even worse

get my s*** together as in financially and mentally

you must have read my mind bro because i’m thinking about moving to Cali as an RN. ik the cost of living is more expensive, but i’ve done the math: Cali pays more overall

sorry wording in op is f***ed up lol

  • May 4, 2023

Oh I see the deadline to apply has passed. If that’s the case then I would take a break. Or see if there’s any classes you can take that would transfer over to your program

For me I took nutrition prior to starting my nursing program and that meant one less class I had to take in my final semester. Before I ever started nursing school I had already taken A&P 1+2, microbio, nutrition, most electives, etc. I basically just took nursing classes and pharm and was done in 2 years with a BSN

i just wanna get my money and my mind right before going into school. life has been overwhelming for me these past couple of months, and i’d say school is certainly a contributing factor

  • May 4, 2023

I would say sure but just be careful cause you can easily slide off. See if you can do some projects over the course of the year.

Especially volunteer work related to health looks good to schools and future employers

Without question bro but it’s gonna be almost impossible to get a job there right after graduation

I would work for a year then move. If you go to NorCal you’ll be making 80+/hr with just a year of experience. I’m pretty sure you’ll be lucky to ever touch 40/hr in Florida. It’s rough in the south for RNs.

And the pay isn’t even the best part. Cali is only state with actual laws mandating nurse/patient ratios, breaks, safe staffing, etc. Plus they have very strong unions. The job will be much easier and you’ll make more money at the same time. It’s a no brainer imo

my opinion is life is different for everyone and as long as you have a real plan you’re good

  • May 5, 2023

i graduated college “late” and am doing “better” than peers that graduated “on time” i put all that in quotes because everyone’s path and definition of good is different depending on what they want and their goals

  • May 5, 2023

really depends on the person. seen mfs go either way.

ask your parents, they know you
