Boldy James does in a month span what Earl takes 5 years to do a less complete version of

Earl has to wait for samples to be cleared, Boldy doesn’t

life goes on and new music comes and goes with the industry always pushing someone new

there’s always a moment for someone and maybe sometimes a musician misses that but it’s never really a big deal

I personally love an artist who drops every year or 2 especially in rap because it’s the genre that has the quickest progression in terms of production

if a rapper waits 2 - 3 years to drop an album, by the time it drops the production can sound kind of dated, lyrical references become a bit noticeably cheesy and not current.
one glaring example of this is when Carter V dropped. Wayne is a great enough rapper that it wasn’t a deal breaker but it was still noticeable that certain songs were 5-6 years old at the time the album finally came out.
I kinda think pop or r&b artists like Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Jessie Ware, Ariana Grande, and Sampha get a pass for having long lapses of time between albums but I still wish they dropped more songs, even if not an entire album. most artists are constantly recording music but only release a small portion of their vault for the fans.

if you don’t drop for 3 to 5 years I would prefer there to be more music put out than is typically on one album

like a Blonde / Endless situation

Uzi dropped Eternal Atake and the Lil Uzi Vs the World 2 back to back

the planning and execution of rollout and the drop is what typically takes up months of time between releases, so that shouldn't be ignored. Drake has chosen to eschew all of that and just drop whenever he feels, and i love that because the music is good. if it wasn't, maybe i'd have more to say about it.

sometimes we convince ourselves that if certain artists take longer, their work would improve for it. but who really knows if that's the case.

Drake if you ask me could have used a bit more time cooking up the Honestly Nevermind album to make it one of his best works..

CLB wasn’t necessarily an instant classic but was worth the wait, Scorpion could have been great and is a landmark project for the sheer amount of hits. but had a lot of filler songs to me on side B.
More Life dropped right after Views and if you ask me was a necessary course correction in the wake of View’s reception. but that has nothing to do with a wait time or lapse between albums and more with how focused the artist is. You can make your fans wait 7 years for some garbage album or you can just drop that trash 6 months after making a classic.
