Blu - NoYork
A Tribe Called Quest - Beats Rhymes & Life
Action Bronson - Rare Chandeliers
Kid Sister - Ultraviolet
Mac Miller - Watching Movies with the Sound Off
Operation Doomsday, The Cold Vein and Fantasic Damage are the apex of experimental albums though.

Other than Blu how are the others experimental?

Bronson and Alchemist made prog rock accessible enough to be rapped over
Peep the songs where where they were rapping over 3/4 style beats instead of standard 4/4
Kid Sister rapped over electronic music and even sang over some with Estelle
And Doomsday was like the head of the snake. Peep songs like Tick Tick where the drums constantly speed up and slow down. Dead Bent was ahead of its time too. Even if you listen to the early demos it was constantly changing. Nothing sounded like it at the time.
All were super experimental and ahead of their time.

Define "experimental hip hop".
Because 56 Nights or something by Young Thug circa 2013-15 is much more experimental and interesting to me than any JPEGMAFIA albums or cLOUDDEAD.

To me experimental hip hop has alot to do with production hip hop production thats fused with other genres like industrial, glitch-hop, house, different types of rock also the quality of music some being very noisy, distorted, lo-fi. The song structures are different most times not the basic verse, hook, verse, hook.
Hard for me to come up with a top 5 but based on this criteria, 5 albums people should check out that meet this criteria but haven't been posted yet:
Arrythmia - Anti-Pop Consortium
mr.SILLYflow - Tisakorean
Manger on McNichols - Boldy James
Man Plays the Horn - Cities Aviv
Negro (Deluxe) - Pink Siifu
