Emerald was the absolute peak imo. Could be nostalgia though.

Nothing before Gen IV was the peak tbh. Maybe peak as in popularity but game play wise? Nah. Gen I was broken, Gen II was barebones and showed it could be improved upon(HeatGold and SoulSilver does), Gen III felt like a beta especially with the early Battle Frontier having some glitches but could be improved upon. Gen IV literally perfected the game. It didn't have a dumb ass gimmick like mega evolution. It brought about the much needed physical/special split, perfected the Battle Frontier, had a competent story, Second best post game content in all of the games(HGSS post game has a ton to do and so does platinum. Only BW2 has more.) all 493 had personality in their sprites with gender differences.

Financially, from a commercial standpoint idk. I haven’t followed the franchise enough to really know. The last Pokémon game I played was Pearl.

Conceptually as a game I think the franchise has severely underperformed. I would’ve expected to see or at least an attempt at a more immersive Pokémon world by now. Like Monster Hunter-esq. Imo, Ni No Kuni is what Pokémon should’ve progressed to gameplay wise. Real time Pokémon battles, that still require tactics and skill. They just play it safe though and people eat it up. Stagnation is a disease.

crazy to think that ni no kuni really did what we were all hoping for from an HD pokemon game and people are still happy with S/S

Gen V was the peak. Game Freak has become more and more deceptive with each Gen after V. In Gen VI they said they'll never ever do DLC. 8 years later SWSH not only has DLC but a season pass.

having too much content isn't the issue with S/S

  • Mar 4, 2020

Late Gen IV (HG/SS) through Gen V the peak.

Wait huh? This has nothing to do with what you're quoting lol. I definitely wasn't saying S/S has too much content. S/S has barely any content. They're now even selling you content they cut out for $30 lol

The post your quoting I'm saying g they've become worst with being deceptive with cut content. In 2013, Masuda said Pokemon will never have DLC or a pay model such as Microtransactions. 7 years later they're selling DLC and selling cut content as a subscription service.
